Herricks Ready To Compete In Nassau Class A American League

Led by the heroics of Matt Yip, Herricks was one of the pleasant surprises in the year 2019. The power-hitting catcher led Nassau County with seven HR; including two in the postseason. Herricks finished with a record of 11-7 during the regular season, but was eliminated by Hewlett in a one-run game. Losing Yip – a finalist for the coveted Diamond Award – will be a challenge for the team. He was named All-County. They also graduated All-Conference 1B Mike Scordo, who is now at West Florida. Head Coach Rich Bizelia, now in his 10th season, knows this season will be an uphill battle as they will be extremely young. But with great challenge comes great opportunity and they have that with the new re-alignment. They will be in the American League of Nassau County Class A which will a...

Chris Marshiano talks about his success on the mound today & what it means to start the season off 4-0. pic.twitter.com/xOmHBXl7Er — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 16, 2019 In a back-and-forth battle, Herricks defeated Mepham on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 5-2. With the victory, Herricks now improves to 4-0 on the young season, while Mepham falls to 1-3. Herricks wasted no time getting runs on the board, as Matt Yip stole home on a throw back to the pitcher, providing them with an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. However, this lead didn’t last very long. Brendan Keane displayed aggressive base running for Mepham on a throw down to second, as he stole home to tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd. This wasn’t the only instance of aggressive bas...

Herricks Enters 2019 Excited To Compete In Class A

After a promising regular season in 2018, Herricks postseason run came to an abrupt end as they lost 10-0 to Freeport in the first round. Evidently, this one still stings. For several reasons, Herricks believes they can learn from last year’s struggles and turn it into success. However, this year will be much different for them. Due to the new conference alignments, Herricks will now compete in Class A. This means they will be facing new competition, resulting in new rivalries along the way. Herricks new opponents consist of MacArthur, Calhoun, Great Neck South, Valley Stream Central and Mepham. Entering a new conference means a fresh start, and a chance to turn things around. This season, Herricks returns several seniors who will play baseball at the next level. On the mound, they h...

Matt Yip: Why I Chose UNC-Wilmington

(Editor’s Note: Matt Yip is a 2019 graduate of Herricks HS. He has an outstanding junior season in which he was among the Long Island leaders in home runs. He participated in our Home Run Derby in August at Baseball Heaven and recently committed to UNC-Wilmington. The following words are his own…) The thought and desire of wanting to attend UNC-Wilmington had stayed with me since the beginning of my junior year. Coach Hood had watched me first play at the 16U Perfect Game WWBA tournament down in Georgia. Our first game was at the PG complex vs the East Cobb Astros 2020 team. Mid game, a dear friend and teammate that had been flown in from Arizona to play with for most of the summer, Bryan McKinsey had came into the game as relief. Bryan became the star of the game as soon as he...

Coach Parsolano on his team’s 4-3 victory over Next Level pic.twitter.com/Ljf5WzUA2j — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 10, 2018 When you have an abundance of quality arms, it makes life much easier. LI Titans Head Coach Paul Parsolano made that clear following his team’s 4-3 victory over Next Level Baseball on Tuesday evening at Mitchell Field. He brought in RHP Rob Milopsky (Rocky Point 2019) with runners on 1st & 2nd with 0 out in the 6th inning to protect a 4-3 lead after the previous four batters all reached base via hits to cut the lead to one-run. Milopsky came on and struck out the side in the sixth and cruised through the seventh inning with three ground outs. Milopsky stated that he knew when he came in with runners on he “needed to throw strikes to...
