Fall Ball Series Powered by East Coast S & P : Molloy College

They return eight of their nine regulars that combined to hit .338 with a .908 OPS and all of their starting pitchers. Hitting .338 as an individual will get you a batting title. Hitting .338 as a team will get you to a regional. The Lions are poised to make a playoff run this year with a loaded roster that will be tough for any team to contain. Head Coach Joe Fucarino, entering his 16th year at the helm with 350 wins, will be looking to regain the magic of 2018 in which they won a program-best 31 ...

Molloy Wins Rain-Soaked Game Over AIC, 9-7

by Diana Ramirez and Vin Messana For those Molloy die-hard fans that stuck it out through a long rain delay, they were rewarded with a 9-7 hard-earned victory over American International College. The game appeared to be a laugher early on as the Lions posted a five-spot in the first inning thanks to an RBI single by Matt Overton to score James Messina. They added two more on an RBI double by Chris Peralta to score Sean Hogan and Pete Theodorellis. Thomas Brady added a two-run single to score Peralta and Overton. The Lions continued to tack on runs in the middle innings. An unearned run in the third inning extended the lead to 6-0 and Matt Overton crushed a solo HR to open up a 7-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Jake Saltzman ripped an RBI single to score Peralta and make it 8-0. At that stage...

Molloy Holds On To Defeat Dominican, 10-6

Tim Panetta carried a shutout into the 9th inning. He discusses the victory for Molloy pic.twitter.com/H0K4YqVKOm — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 17, 2019 Molloy has spent this weekend showing that they know how to score. After a double-header with Concordia, where they scored a combined 23 runs on the day, Molloy added another 10 in today’s win over Dominican. The question with Molloy is not whether they can score enough to win, but whether they can limit the opposition enough.. When they get performances from their starters like the one from today by Timothy Panetta, then Molloy will certainly be tough to beat moving forward. Panetta was dominant on the day, carrying a five-hit shutout into the 9th inning today. He did fall into some trouble in the 9th as Dominican was able ...

Fall Ball Series Presented by The Greene Turtle: Molloy

A loaded offense powered the Molloy Lions to a record of 31-21 in 2018, including an incredible 15-0 start in conference play, and it took an outstanding effort by Tyler Patane of St. Thomas Aquinas to put an end to their run in the ECC postseason. Nevertheless, it was another winning season for Head Coach Joe Fucarino, entering his 14th year, who will have the challenge this season of replacing some incredibly talented players and pillars of the program. The biggest loss is that of Angelo Navetta. Without question, he will be difficult to replace–and in the words of Fucarino, “impossible to replace.” The Staten Island native won our Most Valuable Player Award in 2016, and had an even better season in 2018 in which he batted .384, with a robust .478 OBP, .616 SLG, 45 runs...

Suffolk Powers Past Nassau, 10-4, in Annual Blue Chip Prospect Grand Slam Challenge

The annual seniors-only classic began with an early lead for Suffolk, who hosted the event. St. Joseph’s stands could hardly hold the mostly-Suffolk crowd that supported their run manufacturing team, who scored in all but two innings. Rocky Point Head Coach Andrew Aschettino was part of a coaching staff that included two other notable Class A head coaches in Bayport’s Jim Moccio and Mount Sinai’s Eric Reichenbach. “This was a team of studs, this was fun. I told them before the game that they are here for a reason, and go out there and do what you do,” Aschettino said. Kenneth Gordon set the tone for Suffolk working a four-pitch walk to lead off the game. After a couple of fielder’s choices, Brian Morrell busted a line drive single up the middle to drive in Peter Theodorellis from sec...

Insider Notes: May 18

Yesterday, I was at the Hauppauge-Commack match up between two very-accomplished pitchers in Matt Overton (Molloy-commit) and Johnny Pohlman (College of St. Rose). In addition to them, there were a number of talented players on the field. Here’s what I saw from them: Johnny Pohlman– The big RHP is lanky and projectable. He has the chance to fill out and add several MPH to his fastball when he gets to college. They are really banking on that, because his fastball was 78-82 MPH, which is more of a Div-III velocity. However, what he lacks in velocity, he makes up for in gumption and pitchability. Despite walking four of the first seven hitters, he settled in and found his rhythm. He wound up recording nine strikeouts and allowing only two hits. He faced some good hitters, but he r...

Jake Krzemienski Delivers Go-Ahead RBI Single to Propel Commack to 2-1 Victory

Final: Commack 2, Hauppauge 1 WP: Johnny Pohlman (complete game) Krzemienski go-ahead RBI single pic.twitter.com/wxeBR8Wrf9 — aXcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) May 17, 2017 Johnny Pohlman didn’t have his best command in the first inning, walking the bases loaded but showed his intestinal fortitude by making the big pitches when it counted. He wound up firing a complete game with nine strikeouts, allowing only one run on two hits with six walks in Commack’s 2-1 victory over Hauppauge in the second round of the Class AA playoffs. “I really couldn’t find my fastball to begin with,” said the College of St. Rose-commit. “I had trouble in the beginning, but once I found my change up, and everything was able to set into place, I was able to keep the hitter...

Hauppauge Eagles Quietly Becoming One of Suffolk’s Elite

The Hauppauge Eagles have quietly gone about their business and compiled a record of 36-10 over the past two years. After graduating the 2015 Carl Yastrzemski Award winner in Nick Fanti, they equaled their win total in 2016 and sent five players to play college ball (Tyler Sanderson, Mike Lazos, Tim Woodford, Bily Huber and Kyle Wood). “We’ve been really fortunate to have this run of guys,” said Head Coach Josh Gutes. “They’re really into it. That could easily change. We’ve been lucky more than anything.” They will enter the 2017 season with another quality team headlined by some high-end talent. They will be counting on Molloy-commit Matt Overton to do some damage in the middle-of-the-order and play right field and first base. He hit .314 last yea...
