Paul DuLanto’s 2-R double in the second inning was the difference in Massapequa’s 2-1 victory in Game 1 pic.twitter.com/kiIQ0OIN28 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 29, 2022 Pitching for the first time since Massapequa‘s game against Freeport almost one month ago, Hofstra-commit Matt Hannon stepped up to answer the call in Game 1 of the Nassau County Class AA Championship against rival Farmingdale. Legendary head coach Tom Sheedy told me after the game that Hannon was a huge X-Factor for the Chiefs, as they did not know what to expect from him. He told reliever Damian DiGiuseppe to be ready from the first inning on. Fortunately for the Chiefs, he was not needed until much later than that. The Chiefs came away with the 2-1 victory as Hannon settled in after allowi...
🚨 Sophomore Jordan Welch hits an opposite field walk-off HR to complete the comeback win for Farmingdale and deliver Massapequa their first loss of the season 🚨 pic.twitter.com/FK8STX7jor — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 2, 2022 Twice in the last two weeks the Farmingdale Dalers needed a big hit in the bottom of the 7th and twice they got one from sophomore stud Jordan Welch. While the first was a bouncing single through the hole to beat Port Washington, this was came in a considerably larger moment against rival Massapequa. The sophomore came to the plate with one out in the 7th inning in a 4-4 game, and he went the opposite way, driving one just over the right field fence for a solo walk-off HR to send his team into a frenzy and delivering Massapequa their first loss of the sea...
September is always a busy time of the year for players to announce their college commitments. Some of it is due to the recruitment calendar and some is simply due to the fact that once the high school year begins, kids begin to take their collegiate future more seriously and become more zoned in on their target schools. This week I was away for my 30th birthday, but was keeping track of the college commitments and posting them on our Instagram and Twitter page. Here’s some of the recent ones. There was an army of talented baseball players on Thursday at Medford Athletic Complex for the Blue Chip Prospects’ Long Island Showcase. While the event always garners a big turnout, this was especially large considering all the prior events had been postponed due to the pandemic and players understand there is a finite amount of time to find their future college. I was there all day taking videos and notes on the top performers. Understand that it’s possible I missed a couple kids as there was multiple games going on simultaneously, but here is my best attempt at highlighting the very best. A.J.
