Nassau Class AA Power Rankings (2nd Edition)

With a week of not many surprises in Class AA, let’s take a look at the top 5 teams. 5. Farmingdale (7-2) (Last Week: Unranked) Although the Dalers have had several nail biters thus far, at the end of the day, they’re 7-2. Pitching has helped Farmingdale get to where they are right now, specifically Adelphi-commit Nic Luc and freshman Justin Rosner. Farmingdale will match up against Oceanside in a highly-anticipated series. 4. Calhoun (6-3) (Last Week: 4) After sweeping Herricks in convincing fashion, Calhoun has solidified their spot in the top 5. Led by Jack Pugliano offensively, the Colts always seem to string together hits at the right time and work themselves into great hitters counts. For that reason alone they are a team to be on the lookout for. Calhoun will face the de...

Plainview-JFK Led By Elite Rotation

It was a frustrating ending to the 2016 season for Plainview-JFK who lost to the eventual Class AA champs from East Meadow by the scores of 4-3 and 6-4, despite beating them two of three during the regular season. “We thought we were right there,” said fourth year Head Coach John Givargidze. “We took two of three from East Meadow to start the season but they were red-hot when they got to the playoffs,” he added. They finished the season 13-8, but will be returning almost all of their impact players with the exception of leadoff man Jake Saltzman (Molloy). They will be counting on All-County third baseman Matt Butigan, All-County RHP/SS Mark Faello and All-Conference RHP/OF Tyler Marinaccio. Butigan, however, is nursing a strained UCL and will most likely miss the fi...

Mark Faello was never lacking in ambition. When he was 10-years-old he approached Hofstra Head Coach John Russo and asked if he was good enough to play there. Fast forward six years and Russo was competing with all the other local schools–plus some of his CAA rivals–to get a verbal commitment from the Plainview-JFK ace. Fortunately, Faello had never wavered in his desire to attend Hofstra. “It was my dream school,” said the right-handed pitcher. “I love how big the campus is and when I visited, I said, ‘how can any school top this?” Despite getting interest from several other schools, he committed on Aug. 1, after a dominant season on the mound. He went 3-1 with a 0.24 ERA and 3 no-decisions over 35.1 innings. The Hawks had a successful season, fin...
