In My Own Words: Why I Joined the Marines

Editor’s Note: Chris Deddo is a 2018 graduate of SUNY Maritime. He was a major reason in why the Privateers were able to turn a dormant program into Skyline Conference Champs in 2017. He participated in our 2018 Axcess Invitational, shortly after joining the United States Marines. The following words are his own…) In May of 2018, I found myself pinning on the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and becoming a member of the most lethal fighting force in the world. The United States Marines. The decision to become a leader of Marines was something that did not just happen overnight. It was a long process that started from when I was a little kid. I was fortunate to be surrounded by a family of people who dedicated their life to service. My father Michael Deddo Jr., retired from the NYPD with 32 years of ...

2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region Teams Announced

As many people know, it was an extremely fruitful year for college baseball on Long Island. While it is easy to see the Division-I teams like Stony Brook on ESPN and a Division-II team in the College World Series, the success of the local Division-III teams can fly under the radar. It has been our mission at Axcess Baseball to shine a light on those programs and we do so by segments like the Fall Ball Series Presented by the Greene Turtle, or covering a double header in March, or having wall-to-wall coverage of the Skyline Conference tournament, or having the players compete in a Home Run Derby, or honored at an Awards Banquet. It’s good to see the players get recognized by outside publications too, though. The big one came out this week with ABCA/Rawlings releasing their All-Region ...

Here he is speaking about the win pic.twitter.com/1PZk6ecroZ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 3, 2019 Christian Tessitore and Andrew Spinnenweber squared off in a battle of hard-throwing RHPs. Merchant Marines got off to a quick 1-0 start in the second inning when Kyle Cunningham broke on contact with the infield drawn in on a ground ball to shortstop off the bat of Matt Mundorf. It seemed aggressive, but his speed was the difference as he beat the throw home. They added another run in the second inning ...

Brian McLaughlin Caps Decorated Career With a Legion of Awards

Coming out of St. John the Baptist, Brian McLaughlin was more than capable at playing at many major baseball programs. He spent four years playing under one of the brightest baseball minds on the island in John Habyan and had the type of power that coaches fawn over. He knew, however, that someday baseball might not always be there for him. He decided to go to the school that not only offered him the best chance to pursue a career in engineering, but where he could also play baseball so he chose SUNY Maritime. “I don’t regret a single day that I spent there,” he said in regards to his decision. “There was some good schools but Maritime represented something different. I knew it was the best option,” he added. He is coming off a decorated career in which he re-...

Maritime Sweeps Old Westbury In Thrilling Conference DH

What a thrilling match up it was at the Jackie Robinson Sports Complex at SUNY Old Westbury. Maritime was able to manifest two victories in the DH against Skyline Conference foe Old Westbury on Sunday improving their conference record to 4-0. With both clubs sitting atop the Skyline Conference, it was sure to be a well-played couple of games. Both teams continued to show positive signs, but Maritime emerged as the victors this go round. The first game was an offensive showcase especially for the visiting Privateers in their 10-4 win. They posted ten runs on 15 hits–but the game was a pitcher’s duel ear...
