Led by One of the Top Arms in The County, MacArthur Ready To Make Another Playoff Run

Simply put, Steve Costello has been one of the most successful coaches in Long Island history. He’s won 512 games, 5 Long Island Championships – including the historic undefeated season in 1994, which was his second season with the team. They were in the County Finals each year from 2006-’08 and again from 2010-’13. Additionally, he has 8 players that have won the coveted Diamond Award – most recently in 2018 with Brandon Buchan. There is a chance they add to that list this year with the presence of RHP JT Raab atop the rotation. The 6’5 230 lb pitcher is committed to Stony Brook and is a physical specimen. He was All-County in 2019 and even defeated Clarke in the semifinals of the Nassau County playoffs. He was slated to be their ace last season as well...

Who Is JT Raab?

But 6’5 RHP J.T. Raab (MacArthur 2021) has certainly turned heads with his performance this summer and fall for the Long Island Titans-Quattrini. The No. 1 ranked 2021 team in the region had an outstanding summer, and finished off with a bang at the Northeast Elite Tournament. For the year, Raab posted an unblemished record of 9-0 with a 0.49 ERA. As if that’s not impressive enough, his peripheral numbers were even more astounding. He struck out 12.7 batters per 9, allowed 2.6 hits pe...

MacArthur Looks To Return to the Top

by Joseph Langan Amassing a 49-19-2 record over the past four seasons, MacArthur High School has been one of the most dominant regular season teams. In fact, they’ve been one of the baseball powerhouses on Long Island over the past 25 years. They moved to the Nassau Class A in 2017 after competing with the large schools prior to that. While the Generals have been one of the best teams on Long Island – always finding themselves in the playoffs, they’ve struggled to find their way back to that championship series since 2015. They made the county finals each year from 2006-2008 and then each year from 2010-2013. Coach Steve Costello and his Generals made a great push last season for the championship, making it all the way to the Class-A semifinals. In a hard fought, back and...

Considering it was game one of the playoffs, both coaches called upon their aces to take the hill. For MacArthur, senior Chris Roach was handed the ball. The first at-bat of the game, he surrendered a single to Anthony Labita. However, he rebounded instantly as he struck out the next three batters. He went the distance in this one, a...

Nassau County Class A Playoff Preview (Plus Predictions)

As always, the Class A playoffs will be a roller coaster of emotions. It brings high energy, closely contested match ups and upsets. The factor that makes these playoffs so great, is that there’s 18 teams competing for the ultimate goal of a county championship. As we’ve seen in previous years, there’s been clear favorites heading into the postseason. However, this year, it’s anybody’s title to win. With that being said, let’s take a look at the Class A playoffs. Play-In Games: #18 South Side vs. #15 Island Trees For several reasons, this is a great match up. Not only do both teams have great arms, but they both struggle to hit high-end pitching. For South Side, expect Dan Kelleher to take the mound. Kelleher features a lively fastball, along with the ab...

MacArthur Blanks Great Neck South 8-0, Sweeps Series

In dominating fashion, MacArthur shut out Great Neck South on Thursday evening by a score of 8-0. With the victory, MacArthur sweeps the series to start their season off 3-0. From the get go, it was obvious the Generals were going to be in control of this one. This was all the run support Kyle Gaertner would need. On the mound, Gaertner went the distance as he threw five shutout innings with six strike outs. Coming Off 18-1 Season, Great Neck South Ready For Challenge of Conference A1

The Great Neck South Rebels dominated last year, wining the county wide league with an 18-1 record, which was also the best record for any varsity team in Nassau County. With that considered, this year, they were ready to take a step up in competition. The coaches were ready, and the players wanted the challenge. This year the Rebels move up to the A1 league, where they will find the competition they were looking for. They have the talent to compete and win this year. Coming back for this year’s team is senior and all county catcher, Brett Figelman. He has already committed to Ithaca. He hit a ridiculous .529 last year, with 23 RBI’s. Another leader from last year’s team is junior and all conference pitcher Phil Menist, a left-hander who went 6-0 last year, with an insane two earned runs i...

MacArthur Looks Upon New Faces To Make An Impact In 2019

If you’ve followed Nassau County baseball at some point in your life, you are aware that MacArthur is one of the most decorated programs in Long Island history. Within the last ten years, MacArthur has totaled five Diamond Award winners and took home the Class AA County Championship in 2015. Among one of the few programs in Nassau County who compete for a county championship no matter what their roster looks like, MacArthur knows what it takes to be successful. Since their switch to Class A in 2017, the Generals fell to their cross-town rivals Division in the postseason back-to-back years. If we’ve learned one thing from the past, it’s that MacArthur always knows how to rebound and will never go down without a fight. However, they may face some adversity coming into this ...

It was the Division Blue Dragons who came on top, defeating MacArthur by a score of 5-1. With a crowd of at least 500 people, it was no surprise that this game was a thriller. On the mound, Quinnipiac-commit Bobby Lewis (6-2) received the starting bid for MacArthur and St. Joseph’s-commit Brandon O’Brien (6-1) got the start for Division. Both pitchers have been in their varsity rotations for three years and are the aces of their respective programs. Was it set up for a pitcher’...
