Three-Run Third Propels Body Armor to 4-2 Win over Titans-Parso

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbifqwX4G7M&t=1s In a battle filled with current and future Div-I prospects, it was a third inning rally that enabled the Body Armor Titans to come out victorious in a friendly rivalry. In what was dubbed “McGregor vs Mayweather“, Titans-Parso took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-run double by Nick Ungar (Connetquot ’18) on a well-struck ball off James Cardinale (Commack ’18) into left center field to score Will Feil (Wheatley ’18) and Chris Peralta (Valley Stream South ’18). That was all the offense they would muster up on this day against a loaded pitching staff. Kyle Johnson (Newfield ’18) came on in relief in the third inning and worked around a walk and a single to Mike Handal (Garden Cit...

Jordan Rose’s Ninth Inning Double Propels St. Anthony’s to Thrilling Victory over St. John the Baptist

Jordan Rose smacked a two-out, two-run double off the fence in left center field to give St. Anthony’s a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning, sending their dugout into a frenzy. It was their first lead of the day, and it proved to be the difference this afternoon. What a thrilling game it was between them and St. John the Baptist. Head Coach John Phelan was elated with the resilient effort of his Friars today, who came in facing a Cougars team who had fired four consecutive shutouts. “He (Jordan) came through in a big spot–a BIG spot–and delivered,” said Phelan. “You can’t put a price on that. They came prepared, they fought–we got behind 2-0 and their guy did a great job but we just battled. It was a constant battle. That’s what this who...

St. John the Baptist Relying on Pitching and Defense

Casey McKay, now in his second-year as Head Coach at St. John the Baptist, knows a thing or two about winning. During his playing days at SJB, he led the Cougars to a CHSAA league title in 2008 and finishing runner-up in 2007. He also had a successful collegiate career at LIU Post. He will have a challenge this year in replacing their high-level of production from last year’s seniors–Kevin Dolan, Noah Lorenzo, Nick Lasala and Tom Ekbom. The first two are now playing at LIU Post, Lasala is at Farmingdale State and Ekbom is at St. Joseph’s. “This year’s team is a lot different than last year,” said McKay. “We had a lot of guys that hit for power and extra bases, we will have to rely a lot more on our speed, pitching and defense this year,”...

Recap of Dominican Republic Trip

What a tremendous experience it was for the 20 players who were a part of Sal Agostinelli‘s All-Star team this past week in the Dominican Republic. The competition was top-notch. All players were either already signed and playing on the Dominican Summer League teams of their respective organizations or very worthy of being signed. In fact, a number of Dominican players were signed right on the spot after their performances on the field. All five of the games were played in front of several MLB area scouts. Here are some notes from the five games. There were 2 teams–one from the class of ’17 and ’18 and one from ’19 and ’20. Each team played the Dominican Summer League teams from the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers...

More Than A Dream Come True

(Editor’s Note: Logan is a 2018 graduate of St. John the Baptist. He recently committed to East Carolina University. It was his childhood dream to attend there) by Logan O’Hoppe  In all honesty, I never really thought that being a Pirate was a possibility. I have been around it since I was a toddler and always loved the atmosphere. I went down to ECU for my first camp last November.  In my mind, I was just going down there to play at my dream school for the mere experience. I didn’t think anything would come out of it. I had never really been in serious contact with any other schools at this point since I was only a sophomore.  Fortunately, I played very well at camp and I suppose I left a good impression with Coach Palumbo.  Winter came and went and the school season progresse...
