They cruised past Lindenhurst, 6-0, to run their win streak to 9 and clinched a playoff berth in the process. Starting pitcher Nick Pepitone was outstanding, as he had a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He wound up allowing two hits, walking three and striking out 10 in a dominant effort. “Everything was working for me today,” said the Endicott College-commit. “Mainly my fast...

Led by head coach Rob Moore, who is entering his 10th year in the role, looked back fondly on his team last year, and the senior class that drove the squad’s success to 18 wins. “Last year was an exciting year.” Moore said. “I knew it would be because of the seniors I had. They were with me since ninth grade. We made a pretty good run all the way to the final four. Which was exciting.” The Bulldogs were v...

GAME RECAP: Lindenhurst Stuns Commack With 4-Run 7th Inning to Keep League Title Hopes Alive

The two-time reigning Suffolk Class AA Champion Commack Cougars have led League I wire-to-wire this season – even flirting with a perfect season until recently – but entered play today looking to clinch the League Title against a hungry and senior-laden Lindenhurst Bulldog team led by Stony Brook-commit Chris Carson. Leading 6-3 in the bottom of the 7th and 7-8-9 in the order coming up, things looked very safe for the Cougars as they looked to get three final outs. That last out...

Led by Talented Junior Class, Lindenhurst Poised to be Competitive in 2022

By Thomas Cregan Final: Lindenhurst 6, North Babylon 4 pic.twitter.com/WxxO6iOY7j — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 8, 2021 Lindenhurst head coach Rob Moore is looking for a bounce back season and a return to playoff contention this year in 2022. 2021 was a tough year for Coach Moore and the Lindenhurst Bulldogs, the team posted a 5-15 overall record missing the playoffs.  However, Coach Moore is looking for a bounce back year out of his group and is confident that with the players he has that they will see an improvement this season.  He will be looking to his strong group of Junior year players to provide his team with the offense and pitching that they need in order to compete for a playoff spot this year.   The Bulldogs lost two key players that were a part of the graduating c...

Rewind: Lindenhurst’s 2010 State Championship

(Photo Credit: Patrick E. McCarthy) It’s been 11 seasons since Lindenhurst‘s incredible State Championship winning season in which they went 26-1. They are the last Suffolk AA team to win the state title . Not only did they have 29th round draft pick Jon McGibbon but also the Yaz Award Winner, Jimmy Briggs. The season before, I had the misfortune of facing them in a playoff game. They were the No. 12 seed, Centereach was the No. 5 seed and they were the far superior team. McGibbon, then a junior, cranked two home runs and put Long Island on notice. The next year, they put it all together and the rest, as they say, is history. I had a chance to sit down and speak with their ace, Rich Vrana, who went 10-0 that season and we spoke about a host of topics regarding that team and here’s what he ...

Who Was The Best Team of The 2010s?

When it comes to being considered the best–the bar is set high. Over the course of the past 10 seasons, there have been undefeated seasons, there have been back-to-back state champs, there have been pitching staffs loaded with Division-I talent and pro pitchers. But there can only be one team considered the best. I have watched a lot of baseball, but I didn’t trust my own instinct so I solicited the help of some trusted sources to put together my definitive list of the best teams of the decade. To make it a bit easier, we narrowed it down to teams that have won a Long Island Championship, because plenty of talented teams have made it to the finish line only to come up short. We also did not list any school more than once on purpose because many of the back-to-back champions featured the sa...

Commack, Miller Place and Southampton Capture Town of Brookhaven Championship

Going into the season, Commack knew they were capable of winning a championship. Although it was only a six-game sample size, they proved that during the Town of Brookhaven Varsity Wood Bat Tournament. The Cougars went 6-0 – including a 2-0 victory in the championship against Lindenhurst. Oneonta-commit Drew Vincent was outstanding. The senior fired a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts, allowing just two singles in a masterpiece of an outing. It was his second win of the tournament, he also won on Wednesday night. Although he was throwing goose eggs inning-after-inning, his counterpart Brandon Arcone of Lindenhurst was equally masterful for much of the game. Commack was scoreless entering the bottom of the fifth inning but Vinny Pagano led off with a walk. Jack Cascone followed...

Jack Kelly fired 6+ innings and was backed by a huge offensive day led by Sal Leto who drove in two runs in the fourth inning and another two in the sixth inning for Lindenhurst that opened up a big lead. “This team really has come together since the beginning of the season,” said Leto. “We start...

Lindenhurst Looks To Replace 15 Seniors From 2019 Playoff Run

by Joseph Langan After consecutive playoff appearances, coach Rob Moore and his Lindenhurst Bulldogs plan to be back for the third straight time in 2020. With a deep playoff run that ultimately ended in quarter finals with a tough 8-7 walk-off loss against West Islip, Coach Moore says his 15 graduated seniors were “able to leave their season with no regrets.” With a much deeper team in 2019, the Bulldogs have a lot of work to do in 2020 to fill the void of their graduated seniors. Lindenhurst hit a hot streak towards the end of the season, winning nine out of their last thirteen games and pushing themselves into the playoffs after a 2-7 start. That push, along with last year’s playoffs appearance was initiated by some of their key graduated players. Outfielder Justin Ventura (SUNY Ul...

Q & A With Sean Delahunty

One of the most exciting finishes in the Axcess Baseball era came on April of 2018 at Cantiague Park. In the seventh inning, Chaminade was attempting to make a comeback against Holy Trinity. On a single to right field, Dylan Reilly fired a strong throw and catcher Sean Delahunty made an exceptional play to make the tag to end the game. Now over a year later, Delahunty is now at Lindenhurst HS, who is coming off a great run to make the playoffs. Delahunty was in the news this week, as he commit to Caldwell University. I had a chance to speak with Delahunty and here’s what he had to say. Who are your favorite players in the MLB and why?  Buster Posey because he gives it 100% every game, and is a role model on and off the field. Who are your biggest role models in life and why? My paren...
