by Chris Amato Sharks take this one to start their Columbus Day Tournament with a 7-3 victory. pic.twitter.com/GgyjaxzZLf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 12, 2019 Despite a shaky start, the Sharks Academy scratched out a 7-3 victory over the Long Island Titans to kick off their Columbus Day Tournament. The Sharks gave up a few runs in the first but were able to limit the damage and rally back for 7 runs. The story for the Sharks ended up being their starting pitcher, Michael O’Grady. After giving up a few runs in the first it seemed that maybe it just didn’t happen to be his day on the mound. However, after finishing the inning and regaining his poise, Michael seemed dominant for the remainder of the game. He pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while compiling 5...
2022 Justin Arciniegas coming out of the gate throwing some gas pic.twitter.com/Mirj2zF9eR — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 22, 2019 After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, the LI Titans put on an offensive clinic in the 15U Championship game of the Northeast Elite Tournament at Trunzo Field. The talented squad put up 15 runs in just four innings, including eight runs in the fourth inning to post the run-rule victory over the Blue Birds. Justin Arciniegas (St. John the Baptist 2022) got the start for the Titans. The flame-throwing southpaw struggled early a bit as he allowed two runs on three hits, a walk and a balk to fall behind early in this contest. The Titans were undeterred as they bounced right back with two runs in the home half of the first inning on an ...
by Lou Accumanno Tom Ventimiglia was perfect at the mound today with 13 strikeouts helping the LI Titans get the 9-0 victory over the Seminoles and advancing to the championship this Saturday. He is your Axcess Baseball Player of the game. pic.twitter.com/6KJr3U7G9D — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 8, 2019 Nothing was stopping LI Titans starting pitcher Tommy Ventimiglia on the mound today as he helped his team get the 9-0 victory in the semifinals over the B1000 Seminoles. Ventimiglia didn’t have his best stuff on the mound early as his first three batters reached base. But, with bases loaded Ventimiglia–with the help of the infield–found the hot hand and got himself out of that jam. Not only was the defense on point but so was the offense. Ryan Ferremi singled t...
Each year, Blue Chip Prospects hosts a bevy of showcases on Long Island which features some of the top uncommitted players across this great region. They play in front of dozens of college coaches, hoping to garner interest from them and continue their baseball careers after high school. Today, 63 players showed up at Mitchel Field with 20 colleges represented. Some of these schools were St. John’s, Fordham, University at Albany, Monmouth, LIU, Stony Brook, Hofstra, Sacred Heart, Farleigh-Dickinson, Manhattan, Iona, NJIT, Farfield, Adelphi, NYIT, Molloy, Pace, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn and Stevenson. From my perspective, these events are great because I have the opportunity to see such a high volume of elite players all in one location. Sometimes there’s h...
by Lou Accumanno After winning their bracket in a tournament from Georgia, the LI Body Armor Titans got back into the swing of things on Long Island as they took down the LI Junior Ducks 13-3. “We know we have a lot of talented kids on this team. We use these games to prepare ourselves for big tournaments. We find our strengths and our weaknesses and look to improve on them every game,” Assistant Coach of the Titans, Ralph Dalton said. The Titans showed how talented they were as they jumped to a quick 2-0 lead to open the game as Sean Lowe and Mike Freda scored off a sacrifice fly ball from Coltrane Calloway. Dylan Bruno started on the mound for the Titans and was throwing heat right off the mound striking out the first three batters. Bruno couldn’t keep that spark for long going into the ...
Final: Massapequa Cyclones 4, LI Titans 2 Anthony Femia was the winning pitcher and hit the go-ahead home run pic.twitter.com/NoOwa1zPey — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 11, 2019 What happens when one of the elite travel organizations in the region squares off against a town travel team comprised of players from the top high school on Long Island? A tightly-contested game in which the tying run is stranded in scoring position in the seventh inning. The LI Titans and Massapequa Cyclones faced off in the opening game of the fifth annual Brian Moore Memorial Tournament with the hometown Cyclones coming away victorious, 4-2, with the tying run scoring on second base in the top of the seventh. The Cyclones took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth on a solo shot by Anthony Femia. The r...
There are not many 10U teams that can compete with them, but the Farmingdale Greendogs are one of them. “We always play this Farmingdale team and we know they can really play,” said LI Titans Head Coach Kenny Noe. “We know they have about 3 or 4 pitchers that can really throw so for us it’s just about grinding out at bats, getting pitch counts up and going deep into counts and it showed. We got their pitcher up over 100 pitches in four innings–he went to 107 pitches and it was after throwing 75 on Thursday so it really showed,” he added. That pitcher was Chris Parisi, one of Farmingdale’s power arms but pitching on 2-days rest after throwing a complete game, he certainly battled to find his command. The Titans took advantage of this by drawing five...
You would never know it by watching him, but Andrew Noe had a blast in today’s 10-0 victory for the LI Titans in the Semifinals of the 10U Stars & Stripes Tournament. The stoic young man pitched four shutout innings allowing just one hit and one hit. He also hit a three-run home run, legged out an RBI single and scored three runs while acting like he’s been there before–rarely seen from a 10-year-old athlete. The game was delayed by nearly an hour but the Titans still were able to finish the victory in 1 hour and finish in less than if the game had started at the scheduled 11:15am time. The offense wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. They got an RBI single by Shane Meehan to score Andrew Noe to give them a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Luke Coates ...
Final: Titans 8, LIB 3 pic.twitter.com/x2fhVLZDKP — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 4, 2019 Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, the 10U LI Titans bats came to life on Independence Day. After an error opened the inning, they used a single and a two-run double by Tom Okpych to open up a 4-1 lead followed by an RBI infield single by CJ Everett to short stop to make it 5-1. Not content with their lead, they also got a two-run triple from lead off hitter Andrew Noe to break it open at 7-1. “Our team has been scoring a lot of runs in key situations,” said Head Coach Kenny Noe. “Today it was a 2-1 game and we put up a 5-spot to break it open. We’ve been coming up with big hits all through our order—we bat everybody—and everybody has really responded. We’ve been doing well,” he a...
By Lou Accumanno The Long Island Titans had the right offensive mindset during their matchup against the LIB Enriq- Scout team. Kyle Pellegrino was on the mound for LIB Enriq-Scout and got off to a shaky start walking his first two batters. The powerful slugger, Sean Tierney was up to bat and crushed one to left field for a double to send both runners home giving the Titans a quick 2-0 lead to start off the inning. More problems approached in the inning for Pellegrino as he walked another batter compounded with a wild pitch. Tierney decided to steal not one, but two bases off the wild pitch to extend the lead 3-0. LIB decided to make a change and put in Liam Walsh, but this offense continued firing balls in the gaps. The Titans continued to score another run during the first, from a singl...
Titans tie it up in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Travis Gfrerer and an RBI ground out by Matt Nowlan. 4-4 bottom 6 pic.twitter.com/yBJSk6rTvy — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 2, 2019 The Rising Stars Junior Ducks 12U got off to a quick start on Monday evening, leading 4-0 in the top of the second inning against a primetime pitcher in Trey Zaffiro. What appeared to be a comfortable lead, wound up not lasting as the LI Titans fought back and tied it up in the sixth inning in what ultimately would end in a 4-4 tie. The Ducks got on the board in the first inning on an RBI ground out by Pete Bounogias. Thomas Costarelli scored on the play, he led off the game with a single and stole second base. Zaffiro, a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher ended the first inning with his fir...
Here’s pitcher Sean Jost after throwing 5 innings of no-hit ball in a 10-0 victory for the Long Island Titans. They improve to 7-4 on the season. pic.twitter.com/hls3RnWSH5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 17, 2019 Despite battling a cold, Long Island Titans RHP Sean Jost brought the heat Monday evening at New York Tech. Jost tossed five innings of no-hit baseball en route to an 10-0 victory over the New York Knights in a game that was cut short due to the mercy rule. Jost struck out six and did not allow any baserunner to make it past second base. Although Jost was dominant, when he did run into trouble his defense picked him up. Jost retired the first batter in the top of the second inning and then issued back-to-back walks to Jack Coffey and opposing starter, Danny Debruin, r...
