Though he was just a sophomore, he led the way offensively with a .420 batting average, .553 OBP and incredible 1.321 OPS. by Jacob Infald In today’s fast paced environment, most baseball fans believe that the most exciting contests are those that are high scoring and fast paced. However, yesterday’s LI Boys of Summer 15U American division doubleheader between Titans Manzi and South Shore Elite proved just the opposite, that low scoring pitching duels can be just as exciting as a slugfest. In two games that featured dominant pitching from both squads the two teams tied game one 3-3, while the Titans came out on top, winning the second game 3-1. Game 1: We spoke with Aiden Prashad (Holy Trinity 2027). Thanks to a late rally from Titans Baseball with great base running made the game result in a draw. Jack Doucet for Yeti and Jack Tallon for Titans Baseball got the start and were effective especially when there was traffic on the bases. Dylan Banner had a strong case to be made as not only the best pitcher but also the best hitter in Nassau County in 2022. He’ll have to settle (kidding) for the Doug Robins Diamond Award given to the top pitcher in the county. It was a remarkable season for the Albany-commit as he led the Hawks to one of the best seasons in program history. On the bump, he notched an unblemished record of 7-0 with a 0.73 ERA and 101 strikeouts over 47.2 IP. He fired 2 no-hitters and was downright untouchable in just about every outing. He gave up four infield hits during league play and the lone long ball he gave up was to Jack Coogan in a non-league game in his first outing of the season. The Mustangs entered play with a record of 1-2, while this was the second game of the year for the 1-0 LI Titans. The Titans would go on to win the game 14-2 in four innings out of a scheduled 9. The Titans came up to bat against Aviator starting pitcher Tyler Lopez, the game would be led off with a leadoff double by EJ Ettinger and a walk would follow. After a pop up, cleanup hitter Scott Northrop would hit a hard ground ball to second taking a funny hop past the second baseman and ending up in deep right center, 2 runs would score and Northrop would find himself on third. A sac fly would bring in Northrop and after consecutive walks and a double steal Myles Maldanado would plate two more with a single making it a 5-0 game. ...
