Catching Up With Long Island Strong Baseball Academy on Their 10 Year Anniversary

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” -Ferris Buehler LI Strong Baseball Academy has made great strides in their near decade long run as a program. During their organizational tryout on Monday, I was in attendance as nearly 70 players were on hand at Center Moriches HS. I caught up with co-owner Jarad Vollkommer to discuss their growth and the video is below. The LI Strong won the championship game by a score of 7-0 as they dominated the entire game from start to finish. The scoring started in the bottom of the first as Kyle Strovink mashed an RBI double to right center to make it a 1-0 game. On the next pitch, Brian Forbes hit an RBI Ground Rule Double to make it a 2-0 game. Danny Deutsch kept his hot streak from the semi-final game going as he hi...

Long Island Strong 14u Dominates Against Yeti Baseball

by Nicholas Cipolla RBI Double for Frankie Kentoffio to knock in two more runs. 9-0 lead for Long Island Strong in the bottom of the 4th pic.twitter.com/hETaN0lniR — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 23, 2021 Long Island Strong proved the old saying “you can’t win with just one guy” wrong today, as they went out and dominated as a team in their 9-1 mercy rule win today against Yeti Baseball. Offensively, the bats showed up in the first inning and didn’t cool off at all throughout the game. The first runs of the game were knocked in on a two out, two run RBI single between third and short by Jackson Vaccariello, who advanced to second on the throw to the plate. The next batter, A.J Giel, reached on a throwing error allowing Vaccariello to score from second.  In the next inning, Long...

Catching Up With the Long Island Strong

Today I went down the 365 Athletics to watch the LI Strong’s organizational workout for the 14u and 18u team. The Strong, run by Cristian Lynch and Jarad Vollkommer, are an up-and-coming program. Their college team was very impressive this summer, featuring some notable impact players such as Liam Pulsipher, Brad Sakellarides, Johnny Dougherty, Ryan Brewer, Jose Matos and Andrew Smith. The 2021 team is especially strong led by a rotation of Adelphi-commit Jacob Pedersen, Queens-commit Dom LoFroscia and Felician-commit Jack Turner. The offense is led by three Manhattanville-commits;  Danny Deutsch, Joe McDonald and Joe LaPorta as well as USC-Sumter-commit Joe Dwyer. Two Longwood infielders, Preston Gerena and Mason Mehling are two talented players as well. The team is coming off a sea...

Q & A With Jack Turner

It speaks to the depth of a team when they can win the County Championship and still have some young phenoms in the pipeline at the JV level. That was the case with Sayville in 2019 as they captured their first Class A County Championship in program history while still having a hard-throwing pitcher like Jack Turner stashed away. He put himself on the map recently while playing for Team Steel this summer and LI Strong this fall. His fastball touched 90 at Felician University team camp and committed there on Sunday. He should be a big piece of Sayville’s team this season. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Felician? The college recruiting process was tough at ...

Walk-Off Wild Pitch Propels LI Strong to 2-1 Win On Opening Day

As expected, offense was at a premium on the first day back after a four month hiatus from the field. Pitching was at the forefront, but Long Island Strong swept a double header against Batting 1.000 at PAL Complex. They won Game 1 by a score of 2-1 and threw a combined no-hitter in Game 2 by the score of 6-0. In Game 1, they sent Queens LHP Liam Pulsipher to the bump. He did his job, but the defense struggled through the first four batters of the game – resulting in one infield single, three errors and an unearned run to cross the plate on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Anthony Citarelli. Joe Stewart followed with a single to right field but the runner was held up at third. This wound up being a crucial decision as Pulsipher was able to bear down and strike out Tim Cassese ...

SSK To Partner With LI Strong

When Gary Kucich was looking to expand the brand of SSK Baseball, he did the smart thing–he looked at the youngest, brightest stars in the Major Leagues and was able to ink them to deals to wear their gloves. Their list of MLB players reads like an All-Star roster with players like Ronald Acuna Jr, Javier Baez, Fernando Tatis Jr, Bo Bichette, Robinson Cano and Noah Syndergaard. “The brand in the past year has really been recognizable by everybody because of our social media and–of course–our great players,” said Kucich. “We have some of the best young players in baseball. Those players, along with our social media, has really helped elevate the brand and we’re no longer ‘who’s SSK?’ people really recognize SSK and when they buy ou...

Jacob is a 2021 graduate of Comsewogue HS, he put himself on the map this season with a 14 strikeout complete game victory during the Boys of Summer playoffs in which he touched 86 MPH. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say.. Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Adelphi? My experience with the college recruiting process was quick and painless. I joined the LI Strong Baseball Academy this fall. During that time, I ha...

16U LI Strong Baseball Walks-Off on LI Orioles, 5-4

In a game where they were behind from the start, the Long Island Strong Baseball Academy defeated the Long Island Orioles 5-4 in walk-off fashion at Baseball Heaven Thursday night.  The unconventional walk-off came in the bottom of the seventh inning where all hope of a decision other than a tie appeared to be lost. After he allowed a leadoff walk to Nick Stiles, Orioles relief pitcher Justin Obidenzo struck out back-to-back batters and it looked as if he was untouchable. With two outs and a tie imminent, Strong catcher Vincent Velasquez hit a routine fly ball to right field which hit the glove of the Orioles right fielder and fell. Stiles, hustling, then raced for home and beat out the relay throw to win the ballgame.   “I saw the ball down,” Stiles said gasping for air “Coach told me to ...
