One of the most exciting finishes in the Axcess Baseball era came on April of 2018 at Cantiague Park. In the seventh inning, Chaminade was attempting to make a comeback against Holy Trinity. On a single to right field, Dylan Reilly fired a strong throw and catcher Sean Delahunty made an exceptional play to make the tag to end the game. Now over a year later, Delahunty is now at Lindenhurst HS, who is coming off a great run to make the playoffs. Delahunty was in the news this week, as he commit to Caldwell University. I had a chance to speak with Delahunty and here’s what he had to say. Who are your favorite players in the MLB and why? Buster Posey because he gives it 100% every game, and is a role model on and off the field. Who are your biggest role models in life and why? My paren...
by James Ryder Sunday was another scorcher, but that didn’t stop the 12u Long Island Junior Ducks and Long Island Indians from going head to head at Wantagh Park. The Junior Ducks took both games of a double header. Even with the high temperatures, they didn’t miss a beat at any point during the second game, in which they went on to win 8-5. Throughout the six innings, the Ducks dominated. The combination of starting pitcher Matthew Brienza and reliever Tommy Ford allowed the Indians to score only two runs, one run was given up each, through the first five innings. At the plate, the Ducks had at least five batters in every inning except for the fourth. Their first run came in the top of the first on a bases loaded walk by John Ferrante. The Indians would answer right back and tied the game...
Titans tie it up in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Travis Gfrerer and an RBI ground out by Matt Nowlan. 4-4 bottom 6 pic.twitter.com/yBJSk6rTvy — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 2, 2019 The Rising Stars Junior Ducks 12U got off to a quick start on Monday evening, leading 4-0 in the top of the second inning against a primetime pitcher in Trey Zaffiro. What appeared to be a comfortable lead, wound up not lasting as the LI Titans fought back and tied it up in the sixth inning in what ultimately would end in a 4-4 tie. The Ducks got on the board in the first inning on an RBI ground out by Pete Bounogias. Thomas Costarelli scored on the play, he led off the game with a single and stole second base. Zaffiro, a hard-throwing right-handed pitcher ended the first inning with his fir...
Coach Jason Spahn on the 5-3 victory pic.twitter.com/u1AzVqr3Rt — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 28, 2019 The Islip Owls, behind strong pitching by Ryan Barlow in Game 1 and Max Bergen, Kevin Mills and Jamie Yurcak in Game 2, swept a doubleheader over the Junior Ducks by scores of 2-1 and 5-3. According to Owls head coach Jason Spahn, the team’s victories “came down to pitching and some timely baserunning.” A stolen base and induced balk by Ronan Montana helped start a rally in the second game, leading him to score the deciding run on an infield single by Mikey Tehan. “The kids got the job done today and I’m very proud of their performance,” Coach Spahn said. Ryan Barlow threw a complete game in the first game of the doubleheader, with the only run he allowed coming on a wild p...
Great finish as Sal Ansaldi snags a liner off the bat of Dylan Parker to seal a 3-2 victory for Long Island Baseball. WP: Ansaldi: 5 IP, 12 K, 2 R pic.twitter.com/WQoTd31nnh — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 20, 2019 Even at the younger levels, pitching is the name of the game. LIB Bombers 9U were fortunate to receive an outstanding effort from young hurler Sal Ansaldi on the mound this afternoon against Long Island Junior Ducks. He went five innings, striking out 12 batters and allowing just two runs. “I felt comfortable on the mound,” said the 9-year-old. “I feel like defensively we played very well. I tried to stay calm on the mound, and tried to strike everyone out,” he added. He nearly did that, as he struck out two in the first, three in the second,...

Final: Garden City 9, Junior Ducks 4 WP: Soutar Soutar also drove in 4 runs pic.twitter.com/zZWEgwxb4L — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 3, 2018 Trailing 4-0 after two innings, Garden City was down but certainly not out. They mounted a furious comeback that featured nine unanswered runs over the next five innings. Braden Soutar stole the show with a two-run single and two-run triple at the plate, while also firing five innings of scoreless relief to slam the door shut and complete the impressive comeback. The Junior Ducks got off to a quick start, taking advantage of the wildness of the opposing starting pitcher–drawing six walks in just 1+ inning. They let a golden opportunity to break the game open get passed them, though. With the bases loaded, yesterday’s her...
Kaitlyn Klepper on her outstanding CG shutout in a 1-0 victory to send the Junior Ducks to the championship of the East Coast Labor Day Bash pic.twitter.com/ebcMnRuv75 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 2, 2018 With the bases loaded and only one out in the second inning, it was a rocky situation for any young pitcher. Fortunately for the Junior Ducks, their pitcher, 12-year-old Kaitlyn Klepper was the most prepared player on the field. The young hurler induced a come backer to the mound, she fielded the ball, composed herself and fired a strike to the catcher, who fired it to first to complete the inning-ending 1-2-3 double play and escape the inning unscathed. She let out a big fist pump and headed back to the dugout. That was the closest that the opposition came to getting ...
by Matt Dzenawager The East Coast Jays won a tight game Wednesday evening thanks to their stellar pitching. The Jays allowed just two hits in a 2-1 victory against the Rising Star Junior Ducks. Lefty Anthony Jacabacci took the hill for the Jays and delivered. Jacabacci pitched three scoreless innings, giving up no hits, allowing only two players to reach base. Ducks number three-hitter Mike Prisco got on base after Jacabacci hit him with a pitch in the top of the first and Ryan Micheli reached base after a dropped 3rd strike in the top of the second. Leo Alvarez came in relief for the Jays in the fourth inning. Alvarez pitched three innings, gave up one run, and allowed two singles. The two singles were the only hits for the Ducks throughout the game. The one run that Alvarez conceded wa...

The Junior Ducks came into the game with a 2-0 record, while the Titans were sporting a 1-0-1 record. The winner would advance to the tournament’s playoffs. Thanks to great pitching from Junior Ducks starting pitcher Bobby Vath, the Junior Ducks advanced in the tournament. In this low-offensive affair, both teams combined for seven hits and all seven...
