Joseph Detomasso started on the mound for the Jays as he struck out the side for the first inning. The Jays got off to a quick one nothing lead in the first as Jonathan Sepe singled off to send home James Capozzi. At the top of the third, the Jays lost the one nothing lead as Detomasso got himself into a jam as three runs scored for Next Level. by Lou Accumanno In a close 17U Division battle; NexGen Elite couldn’t get on the board against a tough Diamond Spikes staff. Coach Adam Heidenfielder made five pitching changes in the game for the Spikes and managed to maintain their one-run lead throughout the game against NexGen Elite. Coach Heidenfielder said, “It was a special occasion. I wanted to rotate guys in and of the out bullpen, so they can stay hot for the MSI Blue Chips Showcase this week.” In the first inning Justin Classie was on the hill for the Spikes and set the tone for the rest of the pitchers as he recorded three strikeouts to retire the side. When Classie struck out the side, Heidenfielder replaced him with David Safirstein who managed to do the same in the second inning and third inning. In the fourth, H...

by Lou Accumanno It was a team effort for the Massapequa Cyclones today as Coach John Cosenza had a few players missing, but his team made all the stops at the right time that helped secure a 6-5 win to deal the Tri-State Arsenal NY Prime’s first loss of the season. Cosenza said, “These kids come to practice; do a great job and grind!” This Cyclones squad did just that in this match up. Connor Naus was on the mound for the Cyclones and got into trouble early as one run scored in the first, but he kept cool, calm and collected as the defense from the infield and the outfield backed him up. “I had a slow start today, but these guys gave me the confidence to throw strikes,” Naus said as he recorded a total of nine strikeouts in today’s matchup against a team that could hit the ball and sc...

In a game where they were behind from the start, the Long Island Strong Baseball Academy defeated the Long Island Orioles 5-4 in walk-off fashion at Baseball Heaven Thursday night. The unconventional walk-off came in the bottom of the seventh inning where all hope of a decision other than a tie appeared to be lost. After he allowed a leadoff walk to Nick Stiles, Orioles relief pitcher Justin Obidenzo struck out back-to-back batters and it looked as if he was untouchable. With two outs and a tie imminent, Strong catcher Vincent Velasquez hit a routine fly ball to right field which hit the glove of the Orioles right fielder and fell. Stiles, hustling, then raced for home and beat out the relay throw to win the ballgame. “I saw the ball down,” Stiles said gasping for air “Coach told me to ...
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning with the game tied at six, Long Island Junior Ducks pitcher Wilmer Cuevas found himself in a bases loaded jam with Team Steel’s three-hitter Sean Hamilton at the plate. After a first pitch ball, Cuevas came inside with a fastball which Hamilton grounded to third baseman Jake Zoufaly. Zoufaly stepped on the bag for the final out of the game. The game ended in a 6-6 tie Tuesday evening at Newfield High School. A rather fitting for two teams that came into the game at .500. Cuevas came in relief and threw three innings of scoreless baseball which saved the tie for his team. Andrew Barbieri took the hill for Team Steel to start the game. Barbieri allowed only one hit through four innings and Team Steel’s offense came out hot. In the bottom of th...

His offense went against a tough customer, David Safirstein. After going down ...
Here’s pitcher Sean Jost after throwing 5 innings of no-hit ball in a 10-0 victory for the Long Island Titans. They improve to 7-4 on the season. pic.twitter.com/hls3RnWSH5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 17, 2019 Despite battling a cold, Long Island Titans RHP Sean Jost brought the heat Monday evening at New York Tech. Jost tossed five innings of no-hit baseball en route to an 10-0 victory over the New York Knights in a game that was cut short due to the mercy rule. Jost struck out six and did not allow any baserunner to make it past second base. Although Jost was dominant, when he did run into trouble his defense picked him up. Jost retired the first batter in the top of the second inning and then issued back-to-back walks to Jack Coffey and opposing starter, Danny Debruin, r...
