But, with bases loaded Ventimiglia–with the help of the infield–found the hot hand and got himself out of that jam. Not only was the defense on point but so was the offense. Ryan Ferremi singled t...

With rough at bats in the first-three-innings the offense finally caught fire at the top of the fourth as Tyler Evert tripled to get the team the lead and didn’t allow the Ducks to gain momentum throughout the game. To start off the game Costanzo put in Andrew Schneir on the mound to throw for LIB. With the help of the infield all three batters grounded out to end the inning. Problems started to emerge for Schn...

East Coast Jays and B1000 Seminoles Battle to a Draw in 17U Matchup

by Ethan Marshall A strong pitching effort on both sides ended up resulting in a 2-2 tie between the East Coast Jays and B1000 Seminoles in a nine-inning game from Hofstra. The Jays pitchers: Matthew Jacob, Joe DeTommaso and James Capozzi, combined for seven strikeouts. Seminoles starting pitcher Dan Pepe recorded 10 strikeouts over six innings, allowing two runs, though only one was earned. He also drove in a run on a safety squeeze. According to Pepe, he felt like he had good command of his pitches. “I feel like getting ahead early really helped me,” he said. “My change up and curveball were both working, letting me get ahead [of hitters.]” The first run Pepe allowed came in the third inning. After allowing a two-out infield single, Pepe induced a ground ball to shortstop. However, an er...

15U LI Elite Win Wild One, Coming Back From Down 2

by Alex Carmenaty The 15U East Meadow Mustangs did not expect a wild ending, especially having a 2-0 lead in the top 7th. The Mustangs started strong and looked comfortable throughout the game. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 2nd, Will Brennan for the Mustangs hit an RBI single, giving the Mustangs the 1-0 lead. From there, they would play solid defense and their pitcher Tyler Sugrim was putting up zeros from there. At times it looked like Sugrim was in trouble, but with his solid pitching and strong defense behind him, he would manage to get out of jams in three consecutive innings. Due to the toughness of Sugrim, the Elite stranded six base runners throughout those innings, including runners on second and third base. The Mustangs have a good defense behind him–but the ...

He made quick work of the first three batters striking all three out to end the inning. Argio had a few hiccups in the second as he let Jayden Morales single and allowed him to steal for second base. After a slog of a first inning, Ryan Daza was facing the prospect of a potentially short outing as the Junior Ducks had bases loaded and nobody out. The Forest Hills-native was not about to give in though. He was able to bear down and allow just one run to cross the plate on a sacrifice fly from Evan Rodrigues. He escaped further damage which proved to be crucial as the Tri State Arsenal came away with a 4-2 victory over the Junior Ducks in a 15U Boys of Summer match up...
