The New York Longhorns Tassielli, in their first season together, went 21-0, and put the exclamation point on their undefeated fall with a run-rule victory in the LI Boys of Summer 13u American Championship over LI Storm. They didn’t waste any time, either. They scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The tone was set by James Steck who hit a routine grounder to short, but hustled out of the box and beat the throw. The Bonnie Bulls used a four-run second inning to break the game open and build a comfortable 6-0 cushion. It proved to be more than enough to capture the 14u National Championship against B1000 Seminoles Tracey. The Bulls send hard-throwing southpaw Emmett Gleeson to the mound, and he was dominant. The lefty went five shutout innings, striking out 10 batters, allowing just two hits and two walks. His fastball was 74-78 MPH, and it’s pretty clear he has a bright future ahead. It was really the tale of two games – the first inning and the next 7. In the first inning, Team Beast 14u nearly batted around, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-run single by Michael Ferdinando and a two-run double by Christopher Capone. At that moment, it seemed as if Team Beast had full command of the game and they would run away with it. Jake Lau got the start for the Bulldogs, and to say he was dominant would be an understatement. Lau went 6 innings, surrendering 1 hit, 0 earned runs, and 11 strikeouts. The Seminoles got it going early after 3 straight walks loaded the bases in the top of the 1st inning. A fielder’s choice allowed 1 run to score followed by an error scoring a 2nd run.
