Final: Bayport-Blue Point 9, Center Moriches 1 WP: Ryan Costa pic.twitter.com/PPIIEIDcnV — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 19, 2022 It felt more like a December afternoon but Ryan Costa pitched like he was in midseason form. He went the distance, striking out six and allowing just an unearned run in a 9-1 victory for Bayport-Blue Point against Center Moriches on Tuesday morning. He was matched up against Joey Hiller and the teams traded zeros for the first two innings, before Center Moriches got on the board in the top of the third. After Leyton Pulsipher dribbled one out in front of home plate and reached to lead off the inning, he stole second and scored on an RBI single by Gavin DeRosa. At that moment, it appeared that it might be a pitcher’s duel, but the game complete...

Center Moriches Reloaded For Next Window of Success

Final: Center Moriches 3, John Glenn 0 WP: Jordan Falco (CG, 2 H, 3 BB, 11 K) Playoff picture still to be determined depending on result of Babylon game pic.twitter.com/12hqVIP4cC — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 11, 2021 When a small-school team has a talented class of players, it’s always important to make the most of it and try to get a league title or, hopefully, a county championship. In the case of Center Moriches, they certainly maximized their window of success, and squeezed a little extra out of it too. The 2018-’19 Red Devils won back-to-back NYS Class B Championships including an undefeated 26-0 record in ’19. From that group, here are where the players wound up: Alec Maag: Adelphi Jordan Falco: Adelphi Matt Alifano: Adelphi (reigning Axcess Player o...

Center Moriches Gears Up For Another Title Defense, Enters Season With 30-Game Win Streak

Center Moriches enters 2021 with a 30-game win streak following their highly-publicized 26-0 season in 2019 and a consecutive Class B New York State Championship. It is a very different looking team, though. They graduated Andres Auffant, Matt Alifano, Brad Sakellarides, Alec Maag and David Falco in 2019 and Rob Copozzi last year. Additionally, Paul Gibson III is entering his first full season as head coach after being promoted from assistant in 2019. They return two Preseason All-Long Island players in RHP Jordan Falco (Adelphi-commit) and SS Leyton Pulsipher (Central Connecticut State-commit). Falco was 6-0 during the 2019 season and they will count on him to anchor the rotation again. Pulsipher started every game as a freshman and now enters as one of the more experienced players on the...

Due to inclement weather, yesterday was moved indoors which consisted of the players showcasing their exit velocity and speed. Today was a comprehensive showcase in which the 60+ players in attendance broke off into teams and played a 10-inning game in front of the dozens of Division-I schools in attendance. Some of the schools included St. John’s, Stony Brook, Hofstra, LIU, Manhattan, Fordham, Iona, Elon, Maryland, Fairfield, Siena, Albany, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, Binghamton, Rhode Island, just to name a few. There were a number of exceptional players at the event that caught the eye of the coaches. I’m going to go over the players t...

Perfection! Center Moriches Captures NYS Class B Title to Finish Undefeated Season

For the past two seasons, Center Moriches has dispelled the theory that baseball is a game of failure. After yesterday’s 11-1 victory in the New York State Class B State Championship against Schuyersvile, the Red Devils captured their second straight title to cement themselves into the history books. They are the first team to finish a season undefeated (26-0) since Bayport-Blue Point in 2013–who also was able to pull off the distinction of back-to-back State Championships the next season. They have also not lost a game since April 18, 2018. Any way you slice it, this is truly a special group. In this game, they jumped out ahead immediately with a three-run shot by catcher Alec Maag. The Axcess League MVP has been the straw that stirs the drink all season and has been playing o...

Center Moriches, the reigning New York State Class B champs, has not succumbed to that. They cruised past Babylon, 20-0, behind Andres Auffant‘s incredible day. The Franklin Pierce-commit fired five shutout innings, allowing just two hits, both singles, while striking out nine batters. He also was a menace at the dish. He had three hits, including a three-run HR in the second and a two-run single in the third which o...
