Kenneth Gordon

Babylon Season Preview

In his second year at the helm, Victor Manzella led his squad to a deep playoff run, but ultimately they had their season cut short by rival Center Moriches by the score of 9-1. It was still a strong season, which featured a postseason upset victory over Stony Brook-commit Liam Pulsipher. Their 12-win season was in large part due to the contributions of two seniors, now currently playing at the collegiate level. Axcess Baseball League 8 MVP Kenneth Gordon, now at Flagler College, and Shaun Kaminski, now at SUNY Old Westbury, had phenomenal seasons. Manzella spoke glowingly of his two departing seniors. “It’s a lot easier to win when you have two college caliber kids,” he said. Gordon batted .498 last season with a .602 OBP and owns the tenth most stolen bases in New York ...

Max Effort Baseball: On the Cutting Edge of Baseball Training and Education

When it comes to being a successful hitter, there is nothing more frustrating than being geared up for a fastball only to hopelessly flail at a change up in the dirt. Believe me, as a .220 hitter as a senior in high school I can attest to this. There is no amount of hours in a batting cage that can prepare you for the challenge of off-speed pitches and tight breaking balls. Enter Senaptec and Hack Attack Pitching Machine. These revolutionary devices represent the next-wave of baseball training, something in which several Major League Baseball teams have purchased and begun to implement into their organizations. Both of these do not come cheap, however, and unless you are able to book an appointment at Yankee Stadium or Wrigley Field you won’t be able to utilize their limitless potent...

Suffolk Powers Past Nassau, 10-4, in Annual Blue Chip Prospect Grand Slam Challenge

The annual seniors-only classic began with an early lead for Suffolk, who hosted the event. St. Joseph’s stands could hardly hold the mostly-Suffolk crowd that supported their run manufacturing team, who scored in all but two innings. Rocky Point Head Coach Andrew Aschettino was part of a coaching staff that included two other notable Class A head coaches in Bayport’s Jim Moccio and Mount Sinai’s Eric Reichenbach. “This was a team of studs, this was fun. I told them before the game that they are here for a reason, and go out there and do what you do,” Aschettino said. Kenneth Gordon set the tone for Suffolk working a four-pitch walk to lead off the game. After a couple of fielder’s choices, Brian Morrell busted a line drive single up the middle to drive in Peter Theodorellis from sec...

Babylon Avenges County Championship Loss, Defeating Center Moriches 3-0

Babylon senior pitcher Shaun Kaminski went head-to-head with Center Moriches junior LHP Liam Pulsipher–one of the best pitchers in the county. Kaminski fired a complete game, recording the 3-0 victory with five strikeouts, five hits and two walks. “It’s nice to finally beat Pulsipher, we dropped two games to him, the one last year in the county championship, 1-0, and early in the season, 3-1,” said Babylon head coach Victor Manzella. “I couldn’t be more proud of my boys, I couldn’t be more proud of Shaun [Kaminski]; the way he pitched and it was good to get a W in the first game of the playoffs.” The SUNY Old Westbury-commit opened up the scoring for Babylon after leading off the sixth inning with a single. Kaminski came across on an error off the bat of Joe Rende. This would end up ...

Analyzing the Incredible Class of 2017 Crop of Shortstops

It’s not often that an All-Star Game involves intriguing decisions as to who will start or even make the roster. The 2017 Grand Slam Challenge will require those decisions. And that has everything to do with the amount of superior talent on the island at the shortstop position–specifically the class of 2017. In a typical year, any one of the following players would probably be starters–but obviously the decision will be much harder when you consider all the Div-I talent. Try this one on for size. Here’s a rundown of the top guys in alphabetical order with their college commitment in parenthesis: Joe Barbuto, North Babylon He hit .306 last year with an absurd .521 OBP.
