Since MLB condensed the amateur draft in 2020, it has severely impacted the northeast region. That does not figure to change any time soon with the implementation of the 20-round draft. Historically, most Long Island players would be selected on Day 3 (Round 11-40) which just means there’s less of an opportunity for the local players to have a chance. With that said, there was still some that had their dreams fulfilled this week. Let’s break it down: Round 10 – Milwaukee Brewers – Brian Fitzpatrick (St. Anthony’s 2018, Rutgers University) 6’7 LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (St. Anthony’s/Rutgers) is back from Tommy John and up to 93 MPH pic.twitter.com/9VxNoGiDIj — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) January 11, 2020 Fitz is a 6’7 southpaw that domin...

They did so in dominant fashion defeating the University of Bridgeport, 15-0, and winning their three postseason games by an aggregate score of 35-5. They will now advance to the NCAA East Regionals next weekend. The location and seeds will be announced tonight at 10pm. This game was put to rest rather quickly. The Pioneers got a leadoff home run by Giovanni Ciaccio, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the ECC Tournament. They added four more runs on a grand slam by Michael Manzione, his 10th of the season to go along with his 40th RBI. I...
In what has become somewhat of a tradition, another LIU pitcher has received the Axcess Baseball Pitcher of the Year Award. Joshua Loeschorn joins Jake DeCarli (2015) and James Varela (2018) as recipients of the award given to the top collegiate pitcher on Long Island. While being regarded as the best in anything is impressive, doing so as just a freshman makes it even more remarkable. The N.J. native entered the season as a relative unknown but quickly put himself in the conversation of best pitcher in ECC. That is no easy task as the reigning ECC Pitcher of the Year and Axcess Baseball Pitcher of the Year shared a dugout with him. Varela virtually re-wrote the Pioneers record book for pitchers, but Loeschorn is certainly on the right track. He compiled an unblemished record of 10-...
