The St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles had everything going right for them on Sunday as they took two 7-0 wins over Maritime. The pitching was stellar and the top of the order was electric. These two conference wins were huge for the Golden Eagles as they move to 13-7 on the season with a 7-1 conference record. These two teams will presumably be battling for the Skyline Conference up to the end of the season. You couldn’t have asked the top of the Golden Eagles’ order to be more productive in game one. Anthony Bonilla, Matt Burnett, Paul Britt, and Lou Doria combined for 11 hits, five RBI and six runs scored. Britt and Doria had monster days recording a combined seven hits between the two of them. Tyler Crafa also had a hit in the game. “I thought our guys came to play from the first in...
The beauty of college athletics is that you get four years to prove yourself. Sometimes it’s a blessing, sometimes it’s a curse and that’s entirely up to the athlete based on his worth ethic. There were a number of players who didn’t perform the way they were hoping to last year–but have committed themselves to proving that was an anomaly. In this article last year, we correctly identified T.J. Santiago, Ron Bauer and Matt Seelinger as player’s that could enjoy bounceback seasons. Here are the player’s poised for a bounce back season: Nick Bottari, Hofstra This is the first season he enters fully healthy since he was in eighth grade, when he drove in 40 runs on varsity at Shoreham-Wading River. He has suffered a myriad of injuries and has gone thro...

By Jesse Borek PATCHOGUE, NY — Staying undefeated in Skyline Conference play thus far this season, the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles stunned the Old Westbury Panthers to sweep the doubleheader on the back of a four-run, ninth-inning comeback in the opener. After the shock of scoring four runs in their final at-bat in the nine-inning opener, the Golden Eagles would finish off the Panthers 4-1 in the backend of the cap, moving to 5-0 in Conference play. Aided by two errors, timely hitting, and a ton of wind, St. Joseph’s stormed back in the bottom of the ninth to win on senior Anthony Andreani’s walk-off base hit. After the inning’s first error, junior James Nakashian made it hurt, bringing home two runs on a double and trimming the OW lead down to 4-3. Another outfield error would kno...
Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Dowling might have a good pitching staff, but they have an even better social media presence. For the second time in a week, they have gotten their player voted No. 1 in Baseball on the Island’s March Awards. It is not to say that Cody McPartland is not deserving–his numbers certainly jump off the page. After yesterday’s seven inning outing against Queens, he is now 2-0, having thrown 27 innings, allowed only 6 ER (2.00 ERA), 20 hits, walked eight, allowed only one XBH and held the opposition to a .208 AVG. He has done a commendable job filling in for Tyler Badamo as the ace of the Golden Lions through one month of the season. “While losing the three starters we had last year are tough to replace, myself and a few others have stepped up t...
