Last year’s County Finals appearance was no different. They ran into an exceptional Commack team, however, that halted their championship aspirations. “We got pretty far last year and made it to the County Finals,” said Patchogue-Medford head coach ...

Josh Knoth is on GameChanger and so are Athlete Profiles

GameChanger launched Athlete Profiles in the Fall of 2022. This first iteration of Athlete Profiles housed video highlights captured on GameCharger for baseball and softball players. The profiles proved to be very popular and an easy way to share the best on-field moments with coaches and recruiters.  Now, Athlete Profiles are getting a significant upgrade with the addition of Career Stats.  Career Stats is the most comprehensive view of a youth baseball or softball player’s playing history from Little League to High School. The feature automatically tallies over 150 metrics, ranging from a hitter’s all-time batting average to a pitcher’s WHIP.  This new feature was on display at the 2023 MLB Draft, where top prospects like Long Island’s very own Josh Knoth (33rd overall to the...

GAME RECAP: Jack Costello Fires Gem, Pat-Med Pulls Off Upset at No. 1 Connetquot

🚨 Upset Alert 🚨 Final: Pat-Med 3, Connetquot 2 WP: Jack Costello (CG, 1 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 2 Ks) Rob Melo: RBI single Jack Costello: sac fly Bryan Frascogna: RBI single Pat-Med will play the winner of Ward Melville-Longwood on Saturday pic.twitter.com/T6NLwIJdH6 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 17, 2023 Baseball is a unique game filled with quirks and statistical oddities. Here’s one for you: three times since 2003, Connetquot was the No.1 seed in the Suffolk AA postseason and were defeated by Pat-Med at home. There’s no rhyme or reason to that, each team was comprised of entirely different players but each time the Raiders were able to do something exceptionally difficult – beat one of the best teams on Long Island on their own turf. Pat-Med certainly hasn’t ...

GAME RECAP: Bryan Frascogna Drives in 2 Runs With Bases Loaded Hit, Josh Knoth Continues Brilliance

Final: Pat-Med 4, Longwood 0 WP: Josh Knoth (5.1 IP, 13 Ks, 0 H, 4 BBs) Frank Kentoffio: 2-R HR Bryan Frascogna: 2-R single to break scoreless tie The teams are now even in the standings pic.twitter.com/MxWzNob6uY — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 8, 2023 Simply put, when you have a potential first round draft pick on the mound, you feel pretty good about your chances to win. Even so, the Pat-Med Raiders found themselves in a 0-0 game against rival Longwood in the bottom of the third inning. Junior backstop, Bryan Frascogna, who spends most of the time doing thankless work behind the dish, took center stage and ripped a two-run single up the middle to score 2 runs. With Knoth on the mound, that was about one run more than they needed. Bryan Frascogna broke the scoreless tie with a...

Led by Reigning Carl Yastrzemski Award Winner, Pat-Med Ready to Go

by Nick Cipolla Last year was a memorable one for the Raiders as they continued their winning ways, finishing 13-5 in League I and clinching another playoff berth in the process. Pat-Med looked like a contender to win the County Championship, but unfortunately they were bounced from the playoffs by Floyd, ending one of their best seasons in recent memory. We were able to talk with head coach Anthony Frascogna about the season and the upcoming season. “Solid season with a disappointing ending”, said Frascogna, “We have to make fielding the ball a priority this season. Have to be able to overcome some of the external forces that weigh in on the game sometimes.. making errors didn’t allow us to do that”. The Raiders will only be losing two guys from their core in 2022, Outfielder Tyree ...

What Are The Biggest Storylines In 2023?

While nobody enjoys time away from the diamond, it is necessary in order for players to rest their arms and prepare for the next season. Now that the calendar has turned to January, all eyes are on the 2023 season. From a personal standpoint, I will be watching from a distance for at least some of the season as my daughter was born last week and I would like to spend some time at home. Our reporter, Nick Cipolla, will be stepping up in the interim to be our go-to guy in terms of game coverage. I will be back, though, this is my passion after all. Here’s some of the top storylines heading into the season. What can Frank Catalanotto do for an encore? The 2022 Axcess Baseball College Coach of the Year took over the Hofstra program in July 2021 and in short order turned them into a champ...

Exclusive Q & A With Ole Miss-commit Josh Knoth

Bottom 2: Knoth gets back to work in a scoreless game pic.twitter.com/i8Eg8wC06f — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 27, 2022 Long Island is a pitching-rich region, and right now there is nobody that possesses more talent and current pedigree than Josh Knoth. He won the Carl Yastrzemski Award given to the top player in Suffolk County. Since then, he has appeared in the Area Code Games, East Coast Pro, the PG All-American Game, Baseball Factory All-American Game and the MLB/USA All-American Game. He is projected to be a third-round pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, but with an outside shot to go earlier if he matches or exceeds his 2022 season. He also signed his NLI with the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) – one of the top programs in the country. But despite all the atte...

Josh Knoth Commits to Ole Miss

Josh Knoth (Pat-Med 2023) has made a significant jump this offseason. He was highlighted as part of our “Up Next” Series pic.twitter.com/vz4xFAiGWk — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) February 15, 2021 If you’ve been following Long Island baseball over the past couple years, you are certainly familiar with Pat-Med RHP Josh Knoth. The flamethrowing ace has continued to dominant hitters and light up the radar gun since se featured him as part of the “Up Next” series a couple years ago. All his did in 2021 was nearly fire a no-hitter in the playoffs on the road against Ward Melville (he allowed a single with 2 outs in the 7th). He followed that up by winning the coveted Carl Yastrzemski Award in 2022 and has since gone on to receive national attention after ex...

Recap of 2022 Suffolk All-County Award Banquet

The annual Suffolk County Awards Banquet returned for the first time since 2019 at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook after a two-year hiatus due to covid. It was attended by roughly 700 people and featured the best players and coaches in our region. The highest honor of the night went to Pat-Med junior Josh Knoth who was the 54th annual recipient of the Carl Yastrzemski Award. The award is given to the top player in Suffolk County and the previous winners are littered with players that enjoyed successful professional  – and in some cases big league – careers. Knoth was the runaway winner. He set a school record with 107 strikeouts and during the regular season and a ridiculous K/BB ratio of 93/4 with only 10 hits allowed and 0.86 ERA. If you watched him pitch, it’s more ...

Morning Briefing: 5 Things to Know

It’s been an incredible start to the 2022 baseball season and yesterday was among the more action-packed days. Here’s a quick rundown of things to know. Chaminade LHP John Downing fired a perfect game with 11 strikeouts against St. Mary’s.  The lefty needed just 62 pitches to complete the task. It was the second perfect game in as many weeks on Long Island. Chaminade improved to 9-0 in the CHSAA. They are, of course, the two-time reigning champs and are the favorites once again this year. 2. St. Anthony’s continued to roll We covered the game. Jason DeCaro has emerged as an ace for the Friars and he has thrown back-to-back CG shutouts. They are currently 8-1 and one game behind the Flyers in the CHSAA. They will get to face St. John’s-commit Kyle Chase today. ...

Pat-Med Enters 2022 in Prime Position to Make a Run

By Michael Malaszczyk Final: Pat-Med 11, Ward Melville 2 WP: Josh Knoth (6.2 IP, 1 H, 5 HBP, 10 Ks) Pat-Med advances to face No. 1 Sachem East tomorrow pic.twitter.com/AACXH4Xcdx — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 15, 2021 Under the guidance of Coach Anthony Frascogna, Patchogue-Medford High School is poised for a successful season in 2022. Patchogue-Medford had a great season in 2021; Coach Frascogna was happy to share his thoughts on last season in an interview with Axcess Baseball. “I was proud of how our team played,” he said “We advanced in the playoffs against good teams and had to battle Sachem East for a third time in the season. Our guys didn’t back down and we got great efforts from Dante Morabito and Tyree Jackson. Knoth threw a playoff one-hitter vs. Melville. Pretty b...

How Good is the 2023 Class of Pitchers on Long Island?

The velocity in the game of baseball right now is insane. I feel like an old man when I say when I was in high school if a kid threw 80 MPH by his junior year it was eye-opening. It probably meant he was going to gain some strength over the next year and that would turn into 85 maybe 86-87. This wasn’t in the 1950s, this was just over a decade ago. Somewhere along the line, the standard has changed. Everyone playing travel or varsity baseball seems to throw at least that hard and the players getting ‘D-1 looks’ are now in the mid-to-upper 80s’ by the time they are juniors. Now, I know that is not the be all, end al. There’s plenty of other aspects of pitching I look for, but when pitchers throw strikes and also have velocity that is a standard deviation or two...
