ECC Announces All-Conference Team

From the first team; Dan Parisi, David Groenveld, Jon Cruz, RJ Going, Jake DeCarli, Shea Spitzbarth and P.J. Martino all have Long Island ties. Parisi was voted Baseball on the Island’s March MVP and has stayed hot–he is the second leading hitter on the Golden Lions, he is currently at .346, with 26 runs scored, 24 RBI, .414 OBP and .446 SLG as the backstop for the No. 1 seed. Groeneveld was voted Baseball on the Island’s April MVP. He is batting .305 in 95 at bats, He has compiled a .405 OBP with a .421 SLG percentage. He has committed only three errors in the field. Dowling Clinches Playoff Spot With Three of Four Against St. Thomas Aquinas

That became official with their 1-0 victory in the second game of a DH today against St. Thomas Aquinas. Neither team could get much going on offense. Entering the bottom of the sixth, it was a scoreless pitcher’s duel between Kyle DeMeo and Matt Kostalos. Jon Cruz got the Golden Lions on the board with a bunt single to score Michael Richter to break the scoreless tie.That proved to be the only offense needed for DeMeo, who threw 6.1 shutout innings, allowing five hits, four walks while striking out five. Dowling Sweeps St. Thomas Aquinas, Improves to 23-9

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana It was a huge double header against the reigning ECC Champion St. Thomas Aquinas, and Dowling responded to the challenge by sweeping the twinbill by the scores of 10-7 and 10-2.The first game was a 3:25 slog that featured 337 total pitches but Dowling persevered. Brendan Butler got the start and went six innings, allowing three ER while striking out two. Division-I: Hofstra shutout Manhattan 7-0, behind Adam Seibert and four relievers. Seibert started and went five innings, Adam Heidenfelder threw the sixth inning. Kevin Weissheier and his brother, Matt, both pitched one inning and Chris Weiss closed it out. Together, they allowed four hits and three walks while striking out 10. The LIU Post earned the 5-3 victory on Tuesday, behind Dan Jagiello‘s seven strong innings. He allowed one ER, allowed seven hits, three walks while striking out seven. It was his second win of the season. The offense got it going in the third inning on an RBI single by DH Kyle Fagan (4-for-5, 3 RBI), which scored Tom Asbaty. Through five innings at Golden Lions Field, it was just that–with Dowling leading 2-0 thanks to an RBI triple by Jon Cruz and RBI double by Dan Parisi.McPartland, who had cruised through five inning with only 60 pitches, suddenly began leaving pitches out over the plate and the Pioneers were crushing them.Lou Doria doubled off the right center field fence to score David Groeneveld which got McPartland removed from the game in favor of Andrew Sesto. Brendan Butler’s 11 K’s Keeps Dowling Rolling

He led Dowling to another victory, this time a 9-4 rout of Queens. After three seasons marred with high walk totals, the 6’4″ graduate of Sayville HS is making it easily to forget about the starting rotation of last season. “Those guys were great last year,” said Butler. “I’m just trying to win, you know. But, when your starting pitcher needs only 94 pitches to breeze through a complete game then it’s possible.Brendan Butler won his second game of the month for the Golden Lions who have now won six consecutive games and pushed their win streak to six with a 2-0 victory over Bloomfield College. Butler allowed only three hits, walked one while striking out five in the seven inning complete game.The offense was stagnant, but didn’t need to produce much. Senior Jon Cruz hit a two-run double to score Matthew Moschovas and Dylan Piscitelli in the fourth inning. Dan Parisi singled home Jon Cruz,  executed a double steal which scored RJ Going and then came around on a wild pitch by Michael Tarpey (4 IP, 6 R, 4 ER, 1 K). They added one in the second on an RBI ground by Adam Schuster.
