Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Today was a rare Division-I vs Division-II matchup. Hofstra fended off LIU Post, 12-9, despite getting outhit by six.The Pioneers started their ace, Jake DeCarli, who continued to do what he has all season–he threw three no-hit innings while needing only 27 pitches. Had it been a conference game he obviously would’ve pitched deep into the game but he was lifted in order to preserve him for the meaningful conference games.Reliever James Long came on and struggled, he yielded four ER in one inning of work. Dalton Rouleau hit an RBI single to score Brad Witkowski. Later in the inning, Brian MacDonald smacked his third home run of the season to score Rouleau and Jake Fallon. In the fifth inning, Hofstra broke it pen further when Fallon hit an RBI single a...

In 59 innings he has allowed a ridiculous 30 hits–which equates to a .152 opponent average. He certainly deserved the victory, but the offense couldn’t get going against Queens’ star...
Photo Credit: Vinny Messana When there is a pitching match up such as Jake DeCarli verse Cody McPartland, it is expected to be a low-scoring affair. Through five innings at Golden Lions Field, it was just that–with Dowling leading 2-0 thanks to an RBI triple by Jon Cruz and RBI double by Dan Parisi.McPartland, who had cruised through five inning with only 60 pitches, suddenly began leaving pitches out over the plate and the Pioneers were crushing them.Lou Doria doubled off the right center field fence to score David Groeneveld which got McPartland removed from the game in favor of Andrew Sesto. After a walk, Rick Alessi followed with an RBI single to tie up the game at two. Rob Andreoli hit a parachute down the left-field line for a two-run single to give the Pioneers the lead. They ...

They are percentage points ahead of St. Thomas Aquinas, who currently sit at 9-3. LIU Post is just behind with a 6-3 record.Dowling will most likely throw Cody McPartland and Brendan Butler in tomorrow’s twinbill, while the Pioneers of LIU Post will probably throw ace Jake DeCarli and either Dan Jagiello or Connor McCarthy.Dowling has been led by their terrific pitching. They have a staff ERA of 2.33. Their contributio...
Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Dowling might have a good pitching staff, but they have an even better social media presence. For the second time in a week, they have gotten their player voted No. 1 in Baseball on the Island’s March Awards. It is not to say that Cody McPartland is not deserving–his numbers certainly jump off the page. After yesterday’s seven inning outing against Queens, he is now 2-0, having thrown 27 innings, allowed only 6 ER (2.00 ERA), 20 hits, walked eight, allowed only one XBH and held the opposition to a .208 AVG. He has done a commendable job filling in for Tyler Badamo as the ace of the Golden Lions through one month of the season. “While losing the three starters we had last year are tough to replace, myself and a few others have stepped up t...
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWZXbvS75t0]Pitching against the reigning regional champs proved to be no obstacle for LIU Post‘s ace Jake DeCarli. The 6’0″ sophomore boosted his resume with seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits, two walks while striking out six to improve his record to 3-1 and actually increased his ERA to 0.76, as the Pioneers cruised past the Spartans 9-3.His fastball-slider combo was too much for the Spartan offense.“You gotta throw sliders when they’re an aggressive hitting team,” said DeCarli. “You want to establish it early,” he added. The offense supported him as well. They opened up the scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first that brought in Kenny Daley. They opened it up with three-sp...
