Looking to salvage Game 3 of a crucial three-game series, Mineola took an early 3-0 lead on the road, but were unable to add any insurance runs which allowed the Clarke offense to overcome and ultimately complete the three-game sweep with a 4-3 win. George Neofitidis got the start for the Rams and he got into some early trouble. After retiring the first batter, Mike Duda singled to left field, and...
I want to go back to your last game on March 12. Can you explain to our audience what it was like being down in Florida and receiving the news that the season was over? It was a very wild 72 hours. We were leaving on a Thursday to head down the Florida, and that Wednesday we were hearing murmurs about schools canceling for a couple weeks, some people were canceling trips. We were just worried about getting down there. And then once we got down there, we heard the same thing. People were starting to shut down their conference play for the next few weeks. Muchnicki was able to command his offspeed pitches–his curveball for strike one and his change up kept them off balance,” he added. That outing immediately followed his no-hitter in his season debut against Miller Place in his varsity debut. ...
When the doctor took a look at the MRI, he recommended surgery right away. “He couldn’t believe I wasn’t in excruciating pain–he said the bone could break at any time,” said Joe Muchnicki recalling the low-point of last year. The injury, which is believed to have been caused by wear-and-tear, required five plates being placed in the knee joint, at the bottom of his femur bone. He was in a wheelchair for a week, followed by crutches for five weeks and no baseball activity for eight months. For a high school junior, that is crushing. He missed the crucial time for college recruiting–not to mention a summer of being a kid. While some people would sulk–the John Glenn RHP stayed focus and began his physical therapy. He finally threw off a mound for the ...
