Sayville Looks to Follow Up On Fantastic 2022 Season

Sayville RHP Ryan Karman fired a no-hitter with 8 Ks over Harborfields in a 9-0 win pic.twitter.com/8LQUcYRZQY — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 18, 2022 It was a tremendous season for the Sayville Golden Flashes who captured the League VI Championship and made a deep playoff run before losing to Mount Sinai in the Conference IV Championship. Head Coach Joe Esposito had the following to say: “We had a fantastic season going 19-1 and taking the league title. In playoffs, we ran into a tough pitching staff against Mount Sinai and lost two close games. Ball needs to bounce your way in playoffs and it didn’t for us last year. Hoping to capitalize on last season with many returning players. Two guys at the top of our staff have some experience now with Karman really stepp...

Ryan Karman Fires 3-Hit Shutout To Propel Sayville Into Conference IV Finals

Final: Sayville 8, Bayport-Blue Point 0 WP: Ryan Karman (CG, 3-hitter) Jack Quinlan: 2-R HR Sayville will face Mount Sinai tomorrow in the Conference IV Finals pic.twitter.com/qR3V6j80dK — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 23, 2022 The perfect remedy to bounce back from a tough loss is to get back on your home field with your ace on the bump. Playing in a Conference IV elimination game, Sayville sent RHP Ryan Karman to the mound against Brady Clark and the red-hot Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms. As he has done all season, Karman was lights-out. With the exception of hitting the first two batters of the game, he was dominant – taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finishing with a three-hit shutout in an 8- win for the Golden Flashes. The crowd was absolutely packed with fa...

Observations From East Coast Lumberjacks’ Workout

Yesterday I went down to 365 Athletics to check out the East Coast Lumberjacks’ organization workout. The travel organization, founded by Ryan and Daniel Pembroke, is coming off a big year in which their 2022 grad team captured the BCS National Championship and compiled an overall record of 48-14-3. Remarkably, that’s not the team that Ryan called the most talented team he’s ever had. We’ll get to that in a bit. But first, some observations from the workout. Josh Knoth (Pat-Med 2023) Charleston-commit Josh Knoth (Pat-Med 2023) up to 96 (!) today. What Are the Best Tools on the Island?

Baseball loves to talk about “toolsy” players. What does this mean? Well the five-tools are to hit, hit with power, run, field and throw. Players that have all five are said to be “five-tool players”. Very few of these exist in the game of baseball let alone on Long Island. So rather than trying to make a phony list of five-pool players on Long Island, let’s break the tools down. And we can even add pitchers for fun. Here’s what I got. This is based off my observations. Coming Off Best Season in Program History, Sayville Motivated to Stay on Top

No town has been flying as high as Sayville since November 2019 when they captured the Suffolk County Class III championship with a 28-10 victory over East Islip. The football team followed that up by winning another title last week – this time against Westhampton Beach, 32-7. Sandwiched between those was the first Long Island Championship in school history on the diamond with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Clarke. By now, you’ve surely seen the video that has gone viral. Brock Murtha’s no-hitter sends Sayville to the N.Y. state championship for the first time in program history! pic.twitter.com/HOYA7iindr — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 9, 2019 Looking back on that historic game, Sayville coach Joe Esposito knew Murtha was on his game. “I knew one run was all h...

Why I Chose West Point

by Jack Quinlan (Editor’s Note: Jack is a 2022 graduate of Sayville HS, where he was a part of the program’s first Long Island Championship last season as the starting catcher.) I was first introduced to the United States Military Academy at West Point in early December 2019. The baseball program had a prospect camp and I was encouraged to attend by my coach Ryan Pembroke of the East Coast Lumberjacks.  At the conclusion of the camp I was informed by coaches of the West Point staff that they would like me to attend a February camp and also  receive a tour of the school. On my visit when we saw the campus it was absolutely beautiful and nothing was out of place. It was incredible to see that in person. We toured different buildings where we were exposed to the history and tradit...
