One Bad Pitch Hurts Zamora, Puts Stony Brook On Brink Of Elimination

State.If it wasn’t for one pitch, however, it would’ve been a magnificent outing. He allowed a two-run HR to the Wolfpack’s leading hitter, leadoff man Logan Ratledge–who entered hitting .330 on the day.The two-run HR broke a 0-0 tie in the fifth inning and proved to be the difference in the game. The Wolfpack were victorious 3-0 in the first game of the Fort Worth, TX regional.Zamora ended his day allowing seven hits while striking out four and walking none. Stony Brook Erases 7-0 Deficit, Storms Back to Win America East

Cooper For the first time since the magical run of 2012, the Stony Brook Sea Wolves have won the America East title.It took an amazing comeback on Saturday, too as they defeated UMBC 16-11. They trailed 7-0 in the first inning after the bats of UMBC roughed up Ryley MacEachern.In the ensuing inning they scored a tournament record 11 runs thanks to RBI hits by Malcolm Nachmanoff and Toby Handley and a slew of walks and errors.The scoring wasn’t done after that. UMBC answered with two in the bottom of the second and that’s when Tim Knesnik came in to put out the fire. Ryley MacEachern threw seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. Nicholas DiEva closed the door with two shutout innings of relief. They wasted no time taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Toby Handley hit an RBI triple to score Cole Peragine. Stony Brook Lowers Magic Number to 2

They lead UMBC by 3.5 games in the standings so any combination of Sea Wolve victories or UMBC losses that add to two will result in Stony Brook getting the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. There are four more regular season games to go. In the first game of the DH, Stony Brook was behind 3-2 after three innings, but tied it up in the fourth when Andruw Gazzolla started the inning off with a triple and he scored on Bobby Honeyman‘s sac fly. Stony Brook Wins Wild One over NYIT

What makes Stony Brook a dangerous team is they can play to any team’s strength. On Tuesday they were in a slugfest and scored 18 runs on 18 hits against NYIT.They held a 5-0 lead in the top of the third with Aaron Pinto on the mound, but he struggled mightily in the third inning. NYIT took a 7-5 lead with the big knock coming on a three-run home run by Louis Mele (3-for-6 four RBI), who now has nine homers and 40 RBI for the Bears. The Sea Wolves responded with three in the top of the fourth on a two-run RBI ground out and a wild pitch. They tacked on one more in the fifth, two in the sixth, four in the seventh and three in the ninth.Jack Parenty, Casey Baker, Andruw Gazzola and Jeremy Giles all compiled three hits while Malcolm Nachmanoff drove in three runs. They cruised past Fairfield 15-3 today to improve to 24-12. They’ve now won 14 of their past 15 games. They scored in the first seven innings of the game and starter Tim Knesnik was dominant–allowing only one hit over five shutout innings, while striking out six. Matt Senk Wins 700th Career Game

Written by Jim Ferchland A remarkable milestone was reached on Wednesday as Stony Brook Head Coach Matt Senk earned his 700thcareer win against a hungry LIU-Brooklyn team by the score of 6-4. This is Senk’s 25thseason as head coach of the Stony Brook Seawolves.  The 6-4 victory also extended the Seawolves winning streak to seven and improve their overall record (17-11). Their last loss took place in the second game of a double-header at home to UMass Lowell on March 30.                 The LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds extended their losing streak to three. Within those three defeats, they have let up 20 runs and have only scored seven. On road games, they are 6-13. Chavarria’s Walk-Off Hit Lifts Stony Brook Past UMBC

Written by Jim Ferchland The Stony Brook Seawolves (15-11, 8-2) and the UMBC Retrievers (14-12, 4-4) entered Saturday’s matchup at Joe Nathan Field at the top of the America East Standings. Stony Brook remained hot keeping their five-game winning streak alive with big regards to senior second baseman Rob Chavarria who came through clutch with walk-off single to left field to defeat UMBC 6-5. After suffering a tough loss in game 1 (8-0), UMBC relied on their junior right handed pitcher Conrad Wozniak who flat out dominated the Seawolves. He entered the game with a 1-0 record, 0.90 ERA, 30 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts.
