Photo Credit: Vinny Messana The Farmingdale-St. Joseph’s rivalry has lost some luster in the past two seasons as the Golden Eagles suffered through some lean years, but they have gotten the momentum back in their direction with a DH sweep today by the scores of 5-3 and 7-3. In the first game, Ryan Aloise started for the Golden Eagles and he was terrific–he allowed one ER over seven innings of work, while yielding only six hits and two walks. He was backed by Joseph Calabrese‘s two hits and a bevy of RBI singles from the rest of the squad. The Rams actually took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tom Rydzewski came around to score on Anthony Alvino‘s RBI ground out. That did not last long, as the Golden Eagles responded with a three-spot in the second thanks to RBI sin...

In Game One, they led 12-7 entering the top of the sixth when Nyack erupted for eight runs to open up a three-run lead. Nyack added two in the seventh, appearing that they had opened the game up. They recorded 20 hits in the game and benefited from six Nyack errors. Galanoudis had four hits, scored four runs and drove in four. Photo Credit: Michael Parchinsky By winning both ends of the DH today against LeMoyne, the Adelphi Panthers have swept the series from LeMoyne and have gotten back on track. They won the first game 4-1 behind Jonathon Mulford‘s stellar outing–seven innings, zero ER, eight hits, one walk and two strikeouts to improve his record to 3-0. The Dolphins took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double, but it was an unearned run due to an error earlier in the inning by Mike Stack. That was all the Dolphins would muster, as Mulford kept them at bay all day. Photo Credit: Adelphi Athletics John Fogarty hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Panthers the lead. They padded that lead with two more homers–a solo shot by Stack in the fifth inning and a solo bomb by Donato Signor...
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq5ZTfUH9Kc]It’s safe to say Brendan Butler made a sound decision in transferring to Dowling from Farleigh Dickinson. He led Dowling to another victory, this time a 9-4 rout of Queens. After three seasons marred with high walk totals, the 6’4″ graduate of Sayville HS is making it easily to forget about the starting rotation of last season. “Those guys were great last year,” said Butler. “I’m just trying to win, you know. If I could do what they did last year that would be great. If not, as long as we keep winning, I’ll take it any way I can get it,” he added. They certainly have been winning. With their victory over Queens in the first game of the double header, they improved to 13-4 on the season....
Photo Credit: Vinny Messana It was a wild one in Maine. The Stony Brook Seawolves scored three runs in the top of the 13th, with the go-ahead hit coming on an RBI single by Toby Handley to win 8-5. Tyler Honahan started, but was not his dominant self. He allowed three runs on five innings, allowing eight hits and two walks. The bullpen did a tremendous job to hold the fort–with Teddy Rotliff throwing five shutout innings to record his first win of the season. The Sea Wolves fell behind early and trailed 3-0 in the top of the fifth but chipped away on an RBI ground out by Bobby Honeyman. They scored two in the seventh on an error and RBI single by Jeremy Giles to make the 4-3. They tied it up in the eighth on a squeeze play executed by Johnny Caputo. That sent the game to extra innings....
By Jesse Borek The good: they managed to get in both legs of the doubleheader this afternoon at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex in Westbury. The bad: the rain that was rumored to hit the area did indeed soak those in attendance, making for less than ideal conditions. Ultimately, the Old WestburyPanthers would split their two-game day against the St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) Bears, winning the opener 7-1 in seven innings, and dropping the backend, 3-2 in eight innings. “Timmy was big for us today,” said assistant coach Lou Bernardi, “Good to get the first one out of the way.” Tossing his first complete game of the season in the opener was senior ace Tim Ingram. Going the distance, Ingram would allow only a single run (albeit, an unearned one), while giving up five hits, walking none, a...
Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Dowling might have a good pitching staff, but they have an even better social media presence. For the second time in a week, they have gotten their player voted No. 1 in Baseball on the Island’s March Awards. It is not to say that Cody McPartland is not deserving–his numbers certainly jump off the page. After yesterday’s seven inning outing against Queens, he is now 2-0, having thrown 27 innings, allowed only 6 ER (2.00 ERA), 20 hits, walked eight, allowed only one XBH and held the opposition to a .208 AVG. He has done a commendable job filling in for Tyler Badamo as the ace of the Golden Lions through one month of the season. “While losing the three starters we had last year are tough to replace, myself and a few others have stepped up t...

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWZXbvS75t0]Pitching against the reigning regional champs proved to be no obstacle for LIU Post‘s ace Jake DeCarli. The 6’0″ sophomore boosted his resume with seven strong innings, allowing one run on five hits, two walks while striking out six to improve his record to 3-1 and actually increased his ERA to 0.76, as the Pioneers cruised past the Spartans 9-3.His fastball-slider combo was too much for the Spartan offense.“You gotta throw sliders when they’re an aggressive hitting team,” said DeCarli. “You want to establish it early,” he added. The offense supported him as well. They opened up the scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first that brought in Kenny Daley. They opened it up with three-sp...
Photo Credit: NYIT Bears Athletics 2014 was not a banner season for the NYIT Bears. They won four games in 52 chances. This season, they have already matched that total in their 12th contest. They defeated Fairfield with an easy 7-2 victory. The Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the first innings, thanks to two HRs–Josh Canabal‘s two-run shot to center and Louis Mele‘s solo bomb. That was all the offense that David Plotkin needed. He threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, four strikeouts while striking out four. Nicholas Smith and Michael Auriemmo combined for four shutout innings of relief to seal the victory. The Bears knocked 11 hits–Mele had three while Matt DiBlase and Canabal each had two. Ray Triano got it down, and the third baseman threw it away which allowed Hassell to score the Panther’s second run.Murphy came up as a pinch-hitter and he promptly ripped a double to right-center field to give the Panthers the lead. Senior Mike Cranston came on and immediately was faced with thwarting a rally. He allowed a lead off single and the next batter bunted him into scoring position. Th...
