Farmingdale State Splits a Wild DH with Mount Saint Vincent’s

By Jesse Borek FARMINGDALE, N.Y.—–Much like the elongated winter within context of Saturday’s pristine conditions, whatever happened on Saturday afternoon between Farmingdale State and Mount Saint Vincent’s gives the brain permanent sunburn. In the opener of the doubleheader, the Dolphins from the Riverdale section of the Bronx laid a beating on the Farmingdale Rams, 19-8.  If possible, it felt as if the score was even more inflated than that.  Just to numb the senses and remind us all of baseball’s depravity, the Rams went on to win the backend of the twin bill 2-0.  Because, of course they did. The numbers are gaudy—for everyone.  There were six combined errors, 29 hits, 27 runs, 15 walked batters, and 20 men left on base. Farmingdale would put up a three-spot in the first, j...

How Matt Harvey Inspired and Transformed a Long Island Pitcher

Photo Credit: Mount St. Vincent Athletics Modeling yourself after an All Star pitcher with Cy Young credentials isn’t a bad place to start as an amateur baseball player. Will it guarantee success? Well, maybe the answer is a little complicated… Massapequa native, St. John the Baptist graduate and current Mount St. Vincent‘s pitcher Tyler Krolikowski is coming off the best start of his life. Last Saturday he threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts while issuing only one walk against Maritime in a Skyline Conference game.  The 6’0″ junior admitted it was the only no-hitter he’s ever thrown. “Everything was working that day,” he said. “Mainly fastball and curveball,” he added.  It wasn’t always working that way. In fact, as recent...

Casey Krebs Goes the Distance to Improve East Islip to 6-1

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kX3A94m9Xg] It took just one hour and 40 minutes for Casey Krebs and the East Islip Red Men to defeat the Centereach Cougars 6-2 today.“I like to keep the defense not on their heels,” said  Krebs. “I always like to keep them on their toes,” he added.Krebs, who won his second game of the season, pounded the strike zone all day and limited the Cougar offense to only four hits and was charged with one ER. He did walk the lead off batter on four pitches, but had no issues working ahead after that. He was not over powering, but consistently got ahead with fastballs on the outside corner while using his change up and curveball to expand the zone. The Red Men took the lead  right away, when the lead off man walked, the next hitter b...
