Neither team could get much going on offense. Entering the bottom of the sixth, it was a scoreless pitcher’s duel between Kyle DeMeo and Matt Kostalos. Jon Cruz got the Golden Lions on the board with a bunt single to score Michael Richter to break the scoreless tie.That proved to be the only offense needed for DeMeo, who threw 6.1 shutout innings, allowing five hits, four walks while striking out five. Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Freshman Bobby Honeyman smacked a career-high five hits as Stony Brook easily defeated Albany 12-2 to finish the sweep and improve their record to 23-12. The Sea Wolves scored three in the first, three again in the third and two in the eighth and compiled 18 hits as a team. Honeyman scored three runs to go along with his five hits. Toby Handley also had four hits, drove in two and scored twice. Robert Chavarria, Casey Baker and Andruw Gazzolla each had two hits. Baker drove in three, Gazzolla brought in a pair. The 6’4″ left hander flirted with a no-hitter last night in his fourth start of the season. He held Reno hitless until the seventh inning when former Met outfielder Nick Evans broke it up with a double. Matz ended up completing the inning and finished with a line of seven IP, two hits, one BB and five strikeouts. It was a stellar outing for the Long Island native. He is now 2-1 on the season with a 2.01 ERA. Dan Jagiello recorded the victory, he threw a scoreless 10th inning in relief of Jake DeCarli. DeCarli continued his magical season. After allowing a run in the second inning, he threw seven scoreless innings. He finished with nine strikeouts, he allowed only five hits while walking two. His ERA sits at 0.92. The game was close in the fifth inning when Nick Yip hit his fifth home run of the season to open up a 3-1 lead. Christian Faust opened the game up with a two-run double in the seventh inning. They smacked 24 hits on their way to improving to 15-14 on the season.The offense got going early and often. They opened up a 15-0 lead after five innings before Dominican began to wake up.Among the 24 hits was two home runs–one each by Donato Signore and Nick Zito.
