Disappointing Day for Three Division-II Teams

After upsetting the No. 1 seed Pace, Adelphi was defeated on Thursday and faced elimination on Friday. They staved off elimination with a 7-2 victory against New Haven in which John Thompson threw 6.1 strong innings to record his second win of the season. John Fogarty had three hits and Rob Vani drove in two runs. They advanced to face Stonehill for the second time in as many days and it did not go well. The LIU Post Pioneers defeated No. 1 seed Dowling with an 8-0 shutout. It’s hard to call it an upset when they handled them three of four during the regular season and had the ECC Pitcher of the Year on the mound.Jake DeCarli threw a CG five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to lower his conference-leading ERA to 0.76. He allowed hits in the first, second, fifth and eighth inning but never more than two base runners in any inning. Photo Credit: Stonehill University Just two days after pulling off an upset of No. 1 ranked Pace, Adelphi was defeated, 2-1, by Stonehill and now face elimination in the Northeast-10 conference playoffs.Staring pitcher Jonathon Mulford entered the game unblemished at 7-0 but allowed a first inning run on an RBI single. In the second inning, Stonehill increased their lead to 2-0 on a sac fly to right fielder Nick Zito.That was all that Mulford would allow, he went eight innings, allowing just two runs (one ER) on two hits while walking three and striking out six. ECC Announces All-Conference Team

From the first team; Dan Parisi, David Groenveld, Jon Cruz, RJ Going, Jake DeCarli, Shea Spitzbarth and P.J. Martino all have Long Island ties. Parisi was voted Baseball on the Island’s March MVP and has stayed hot–he is the second leading hitter on the Golden Lions, he is currently at .346, with 26 runs scored, 24 RBI, .414 OBP and .446 SLG as the backstop for the No. 1 seed. Groeneveld was voted Baseball on the Island’s April MVP. He is batting .305 in 95 at bats, He has compiled a .405 OBP with a .421 SLG percentage. He has committed only three errors in the field. Stony Brook Wins Wild One over NYIT

What makes Stony Brook a dangerous team is they can play to any team’s strength. Photo Credit: Adelphi Athletics Adelphi knocked off No. 1 ranked Pace, 6-2, to move past the single-elimination round and officially entered the Northeast-10 tournament this weekend.The offense came to play today against Pace’s ace, Josh Garran, who entered the game with a 2.08 ERA but was tagged with five ER in 4.1 innings. The big blow was Tyler Murphy‘s two-run double in the fifth inning, which scored Nick Zito and Kory Cassara, to open up a 5-1 lead.Donato Signore, Cassara, Zito and Ray Triano all smacked two hits while Murphy and Triano drove in two runs. David Groeneveld Voted April’s MVP

Photo Credit: LIU Post Athletics The people have spoken! After a whopping 2.548 votes, LIU‘s first baseman David Groeneveld has been voted MVP of April. Last month, Dan Parisi of Dowling had the award bestowed upon him after receiving a majority of the 748 votes. This season, Groeneveld is batting .305 with a .407 OBP and .421 SLG percentage. He has nine extra-base hits. In April, however, he has taken his game to another level. He entered the month with a .219 average after their March 30 game against St. Thomas Aquinas. Since then, he has amassed 22 hits in 17 games and scored seven runs to become one of the most consistent forces in the Pioneers’ lineup. “I thought it was really good,” he said in regards to his April performance. “I made a few adjustments t...

Hofstra fended off LIU Post, 12-9, despite getting outhit by six.The Pioneers started their ace, Jake DeCarli, who continued to do what he has all season–he threw three no-hit innings while needing only 27 pitches. Had it been a conference game he obviously would’ve pitched deep into the game but he was lifted in order to preserve him for the meaningful conference games.Reliever James Long came on and struggled, he yielded four ER in one inning of work. They cruised past Fairfield 15-3 today to improve to 24-12. They’ve now won 14 of their past 15 games. They scored in the first seven innings of the game and starter Tim Knesnik was dominant–allowing only one hit over five shutout innings, while striking out six.
