The festivities began with a HR Derby in which Tommy O’Connor captured the title with an impressive showing – hitting six bombs for the win. Later in the day, the stars aligned for the annual All-Star Game in which former Riverhead Tomcats player and current cop Jimmy Luppens threw out the first pitch in his uniform and appeared like he could be used in relief later in the day. After a scoreless first inning, Sean Keys got the scoring going with a solo s...

Q & A With Plainview-native Tyler Galletti

by Ben Diamond Many collegiate baseball players spend their summers in the Hamptons. They aren’t there to enjoy long days on the beach, and nights at 1 Oak. They head to the east end of Long Island to play in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League where top college players from across the country come to compete with and against one another. One player in particular is a Long Island native who got the chance to participate this summer. This player is Sacred Heart catcher Tyler Galletti. Galletti, a freshman, had his first opportunity to play in the Hamptons League this summer. He walked us through his daily routines, on game days and off days. What is your game day routine? T: “Wake up, lift, eat. I go to the cage to get some swings in before heading to the field for warm ups and BP...

Recap of HCBL Home Run Derby and All Star Game

by Gabe Zoda FINAL: Team Gold 17, Team Red 5. We Spoke with ASG MVP Chad Pike after his 3-5, 1HR, 5RBI performance today. pic.twitter.com/SQZfbvR95L — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 18, 2021 There is never a more fun atmosphere than that of the All Star Game and HR Derby. The Hamptons League is no different as they put them both in one day and let the fun roll out. To start the day, the HR Derby was won by Steve Luttazi who went from the bottom of the board with 3 HR’s in the first round to finding his stroke in the 2nd round. In that 2nd round, Luttazi would blast 7 homers to win him the derby.  After that, the players got 4 hours to chill out with their friends, eat food off the grill, take a BP and IO. At 7 o’ clock, the ASG would start. This ASG would have a total of 2...

South Shore Clippers Walk-Off Against Tomcats

by Gabe Zoda Spoke to Alex Ungar after the game to talk about his thoughts on the 6-5 victory for the Clippers over the Riverhead Tomcats. pic.twitter.com/JZgEr7DtC4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 7, 2021 It didn’t matter what kind of baseball fan you are, the game between the South Shore Clippers and the Riverhead Tomcats had it all. This game encapsulated everything the Hampton’s League has to offer and put it on display to put on a super close and tense game of baseball.  Once the dust settled it would be the Clippers who would come out on top. They would take it by a final score of 6-5 but it would take every last pitch of the game to figure out who would come home with the W.  As mentioned before, this game had it all but it was also a true tale of two halves. In the firs...

Alex Ungar Hits Walk-Off HR; Southampton Breakers and South Shore Clippers Split DH

by Gabe Zoda F/6 Breakers 13, Clippers 1. We spoke with WP Robert Lucano after his performance on the mound (CG, 6IP, 5Ks, 0BBs). pic.twitter.com/TrKYmRysu0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 26, 2021 The 1st place Southampton Breakers took on the South Shore Clippers at Bellport High School in a doubleheader today. These two games were very different from each other and the scores reflect just that. They would split the doubleheader. Just like the winners of each game, they would also end in different ways. The first game was very close and a true battle until the very end. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the Clippers but how they got there was truly something to watch.  The winning pitcher for the game would be Liam Pulsipher (CG, , 0BBs, 10 Ks). He would start his day off r...

North Fork Ospreys Defeat Westhampton Aviators, 3-1

by Gabe Zoda We spoke with Chris Andrews after his 2-3, 1 RBI, 2R performance at the plate and his run saving DP on the field. pic.twitter.com/bGi7Qf8Gyh — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 25, 2021 The Hamptons League saw some under the lights action at Jean Cochran Park last night. After winning their first game of the season on the 23rd, the North Fork Ospreys looked to carry some of that momentum into tonight when they took on the Westhampton Aviators. The Aviators were looking to create some distance to stay above .500.  At the end of the day the Aviators would fall to the Ospreys by the score of 3-1.  This game was tightly-contested throughout with a lot of big moments that changed the course of the game.  The scoring took a couple of innings to get started as the First innin...

Sag Harbor Whalers Defeat South Shore Clippers, 8-5

by Gabe Zoda It was a historical evening of baseball in the Hampton Collegiate Baseball League. The South Shore Clippers took on the Sag Harbor Whalers today at Bellport High School, home of the Clippers. Both teams were coming off of losses in their previous games and both came into tonight’s game 1-1. The Whalers had things rolling on both sides and ended up taking the win 8-5 through 8 innings of baseball.  With that said, there was a lot of baseball and it was jam-packed with a ton of big moments and the action started quickly in the 1st. Anthony Martino started off struggling to find the zone as he walked the first 3 batters (Sean Springer, Myles Proctor, Garrett Scavelli). Next up was Kieran Dowd who grounded into a 6-4 fielder’s choice that brought in Springer from 3rd to star...

Southampton Breakers Kick Off HCBL Season With a Win

by Gabe Zoda In the top of the 4th, the Breakers pour on the runs. 5 in the inning and 7 in the game as the Breakers extend their lead to 7-0. pic.twitter.com/5RJ7ylHgMK — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 15, 2021 To start off the 2021 season of the Hamptons League, the Riverhead Tomcats opened up at home. It was the Southampton Breakers, though, who were able to take home the W to jump start their season.  Jake Babuchak, the starting pitcher for the Tomcats set the tone on the mound, striking out two batters and getting a quick 1,2,3 inning.  Mike Volgende returned the favor and did the exact same thing in the bottom of the inning, striking out two and setting the side down in order. It was in the top of the second that the Breakers would start to put some runs on the board. Babu...

OTD: Joseph O’Connell’s Strong Relief Work Proves Crucial for Shelter Island

by Chris Sacchi Some shenanigans from fellow Shelter Island Bucks around Joseph O’Connell, but he stays focused to talk with @SachChristopher about over 4 innings of work out of the bullpen to earn the win in a 9-6 victory over the @WHAviators pic.twitter.com/e5ywjaMvnJ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 25, 2019 The Shelter Island Bucks led for most of Monday’s game against Westhampton, and took down the Aviators by a 9-6 score. Jeff Long for Shelter Island and Westhampton’s Ryan Smith was the starting pitching match up, but both players did not make through the fourth inning. In a battle of the bullpens, Shelter Island came out on top, led by right-hander Joseph O’Connell. O’Connell entered with a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, with two outs and runners on second an...

Road Warriors Return to the Top of the League, Use Power to Halt Red-Hot Ospreys

One week ago, the Long Island Road Warriors hit their first brick wall of the season. They dropped a key game to Westhampton, who they have been trading on-and-off with for first place in the HCBL, and proceeded to go on a three-game losing streak. It was unfamiliar territory for the defending league champions after starting the season winning seven of their first eight games. But that was last week. This week, the narrative is back to what Neal Heaton and his unit are accustomed to. The Road Warriors (11-4-0) are atop the HCBL after picking up a 6-4 victory over the North Fork Ospreys (6-8-2) on Wednesday. The win for Long Island is their fourth in a row. Coming into Wednesday’s contest, the Ospreys flipped the script on their season. They started the summer without a win through their fi...
