In 2022, the Bulldogs entered the season having lost ten recent graduates from 2021’s conference winning team that featured Diamond Award winner Hayden Leiderman. However, the young team pulled together and fought hard all season long. According to Coach Freeman his team, “Exceeded all expectations.” The Bulldogs clinched their second consecutive playoff berth and went on to win a thrilling play-in game agai...
By Michael Malaszczyk Coach Daniel Freeman of Roslyn is looking ahead to the 2022 baseball season with confidence. Roslyn had a great season in 2021. They finished with a 14-2 overall record, were the champions of their conference, and made it into the playoffs. In the playoffs, they lost to South Side; the team who would go on to win the County Championship. Considering 2021 was the first season in two years, with the 2020 season lost to the pandemic, this was an impressive feat by Roslyn. “Last season was one of the most successful years that we have had in school history,” said Freeman. “We were conference champions for the first time in almost 30 years and finished on a twelve game winning streak. We stayed undefeated at home, had three All-County players (Jordan Zucker, Danny Rosman, ...
Oh what a night! It was an evening of celebrating the 2021 baseball season now that the book is officially closed on it. We had over 130 guests at the beautiful Hilton Long Island in Melville; which included honorary guests Ray Negron, executive for the New York Yankees, and Super Bowl Championship Gary Brown. Additionally, there was familiar faces from across the Long Island baseball scene. The night began with an inspirational keynote speech from Ray Negron who told his story of getting caught spraying graffiti at Yankee Stadium by then-Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. In a surprise turn of events, he offered him a job as a batboy. Negron worked his way up the organizational ranks and is now an executive with World Series rings, and he has also parlayed it into a successful career as a...
It’s always an exciting day when the League/Conference MVPs are announced because after the Long Island Championships, you’re expecting a slow news day and then the list drops and it’s another hit of news. To be fair, the list didn’t actually drop but I was able to find out the winners and here they are. Quick note: Nassau opted to award a Most Valuable Position Player as well as Most Valuable Pitcher, whereas Suffolk just named one player. Naturally, many players in Suffolk will feel slighted if they felt they had a case to win. The next big announcement will be the two Diamond Award winners as well as the Carl Yastrzemski Award, Paul Gibson Award and Silver Slugger. Nassau County: I- Vin Mallon (Massapequa), Liam Carroll (Massapequa) II- Co-Winners: Patrick Sanche...
by Ben Diamond Just like every other coach, Roslyn head baseball coach Dan Freeman lost many seniors after the cancelled 2020 season. Players like catcher Andy Simon who Freeman felt was becoming a commander on the field, and Jordan Bernstein, one of the team’s captains who was a three-year varsity player, among other players like left fielder Ryan Rabinowitz, and utility infielder Brad Basel were big losses according to Freeman because of their impact on the team. “We had a good crew of seniors that were really hungry,” Freeman said. “We amped up the offseason workouts and they showed up, at every single one of them.” This year, Freeman’s squad showcases the school’s valedictorian Jordan Zucker, and salutatorian Danny Rosman. Zucker is a five-year starter in center field and on the...
