Coming into today’s game had to feature two of the hottest teams in all of Long Island. Freedom Baseball, a group that was 13-4 on the year coming into the match up, has been one of the top defensive teams in this league. During their 7-game win streak they’ve only allowed 1 run per game and have had three shutouts. They take on the B1000 Seminoles who have won four of their last 5 games and their coaches say when the offense is on they are a very tough team to beat. They’ve done it on both sides of the baseball throughout this hot stretc...
by James Ryder Final: LI Elite take W 6-1. Here is Mike Cucinella (3 RBI) and Nick Koustulias (complete game, 0 ER) on their teams early success at the plate and how their team felt in their first game of the day: pic.twitter.com/GHwToYN8y9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 24, 2020 Some heavy rain nearly put a damper on the Axcess Baseball Invitational at Moriches Complex Friday morning. It caused the 9 AM matchup between 15 U Long Island Elite and Freedom Baseball to play just 6 or the usual 7 innings. The rain, however, didn’t seem to be a factor for LI Elite, whose early offensive success and strong dominant pitching led to their 6-1 victory. The game began with LI at the plate. Leadoff hitter JD Decina drew a walk. He then stole second base before being driven in on Mike Cuc...
On a sun-soaked afternoon in Holtsville, Freedom Baseball‘s bats were on display in a 6-1 victory over the Junior Ducks in a 13u Boys of Summer match up. They did the bulk of their damage in the middle innings, as they broke open a 1-1 tie with an RBI single by Kyle Coppola to right field and then Isaiah Gibbs followed that up with an RBI ground out to extend the lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, they added plenty of cushion to their lead with an RBI single by Evan Loro – who was also the winning pitcher. Ryan Sanabria ripped a two-out, two-run single to open up a comfortable 6-1 lead. Loro, the starting pitcher for Freedom Baseball showed plenty of toughness. “He’s a big game pitcher,” said Coach Coppola. “We’ve talked to him about keeping...
Even in the age of social media, he’s managed to fly under-the-radar. And that’s just fine by him. Roosevelt 2020 grad Idris Carter is one of the best players on Long Island and is committed to Stony Brook. Two MLB teams have expressed interest in drafting him next June . Somehow most people don’t know much about him other than that he led Long Island in home runs in 2018 with 10 when he was just a sophomore. Playing baseball at Roosevelt is not exactly the American League East and playing football has limited his amount of time playing in front of big-time schools. Still, Stony Brook noticed him early in the process and he committed back in June. That came to fruition when Willie Carmona, who was a major piece of Stony Brook’s 2012 World Series run, met Carter at a...

Behind a strong pitching performance by Ryan Shih, Freedom Baseball now advances to the semifinals. Shih threw a complete game, struck out nine, and gave up one unearned run. He says the strong defense behind him allowed him to attack whoever stepped into the batter’s box. “It gives me the confidence to go after the hitters,” Shih said. The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but in the third Freedom Basebal...
