The 10-year MLB veteran has seen it all on a baseball field and in his 17-year tenure as head coach. When discussing his freshmen class he said, “it might be the best depth we’ve brought in. It’s pushed the other guys,” he added. The Rams are coming off a 2022 season in which they finishe...

Farmingdale Sweeps DH Against Manhattanville to Open 2021

Bobby Pollock’s grand slam to break the game open for Farmingdale! @FarmStateRams pic.twitter.com/MSSmoHVnL8 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 20, 2021 Is there anything better than Opening Day? Oh that’s right, Opening Day on a 50 degree sunny day with no wind. Although it was a little later in the year than normal, Farmingdale State finally kicked off their title defense on Saturday in a home double header against Manhattanville, the newcomers to the Skyline Conference. I cannot say that there was a raucous atmosphere, considering there was no spectators in attendance besides myself and Christine, our photographer. The Rams came away with two victories, here’s how it went down: Joe Marino got the start for the Rams and he was opposed by Luke Schaffer. Both st...

Fall Ball Series Powered by East Coast S & P: Farmingdale State College

Joe Wolf (Division 2017) will be counted on as one of the weekend starters pic.twitter.com/vlLICujQ15 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 19, 2020 Covid impacted every team in some way, but for Farmingdale State, it was especially cruel. The Rams, – who entered the 2020 season as the reigning Skyline Conference champs – had only gotten to play five games on the season. They had flown down to Auburndale, FLA for their annual spring training trip with their sites set on repeating as champs. “We were in Florida when we got the call from our Athletic Director,” said Head Coach Keith Osik. “We had just gotten to the condos and I told the kids to go to the pool and relax. I was with Anthony Zitaglio and that was when Rudy Gobert tested positive and they p...

10 Years Later: Looking Back on The Wildest Season of my Life

(Photo Credit: Marybeth Zilnicki) 17 minute read I’ve had more successful seasons and more disappointing seasons from a personal standpoint, but I’ve never been a part of any season quite like 2010 with the Farmingdale State Rams. Yesterday marks 10 years to the day that we overcame a 7-2 deficit in the fifth inning to win 11-10 and capture the Skyline Conference Championship over rival SUNY Old Westbury. To put the season in perspective, it ended on an error that scored to two runs in the bottom of the ninth and it wasn’t even the most demoralizing loss of the day. I was thinking about it today and I think it could actually be made into a pretty decent documentary when you consider the expectations, the characters involved, the way the season played out and most importan...

‘No More Pasta And Carbs’ As Annunziata Is Ready To Make An Impact at Farmingdale

by Justin Joseph It’s not unusual for college athletes to work in restaurants to make some spending money. Louis Annunziata is no different than many college ballplayers in that regard. He is a freshman catcher on the baseball team at Farmingdale State College and he’s working hard to get a starting job on one of the best Division-III teams in the northeast region that just won 32 games. What makes his case more interesting is that his family owns “Patrizia’s of Long Island.” If you are from here and you enjoy great food, you are probably familiar with it. They have locations in Hicksville, Massapequa and Hauppauge and have essentially turned every visit into a huge family celebration. While their business is booming, he has his sights set on his playing career first. He has always loved t...

Who Were The Best College Teams of The 2010s?

Like we did a couple weeks ago with high school, it’s time to debate the top college teams of the 2010s. The rules are as follows: Each program can appear on this list only one time. This is to avoid having the list stocked with Division-I schools. The schools that are in consideration are Stony Brook, Hofstra, NY Tech, Adelphi, Molloy, LIU Post, Queens, Dowling, Farmingdale State, Old Westbury, St. Joseph’s, Maritime, Suffolk CC and Nassau CC. Without further ado, here it goes. 10. Suffolk CC 2018 (Record: 30-13) This team had a terrific combination of pitching and defense. Leading the charge offensively was Jeff Towle. A catcher with true power potential at the plate, he hit three HRs in one game in early March. He finished the season with a triple slash line of .463/.543/.86...

“Hitting For Hunger” Raises Over 2,000 lbs Of Food For Less Fortunate

Randy Caden, owner of Long Island Sports Zone, discusses today’s charity event “Hitting For Hunger” pic.twitter.com/iUYwgSEqHQ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 23, 2019 The phrase ‘bigger than the game’ is thrown around often but in this case it is warranted. Randy Caden, owner of Long Island Sports Zone, and his son, Tim, organized their third annual “Hitting For Hunger” Event. After 750 lbs of food donations in 2014, they more than doubled that by 2018 and projected to top over 2,000 lbs this year. In addition, they were able to get gift certificates from Patrizia’s Restuarant. Over 230 young ballplayers walked through the doors today to get their swings from several players from Farmingdale State College that volunteered the...

Q & A With Farmingdale RHP Matthew Constantine

It has been an unbelievable season for the Farmingdale State Rams. They just recently defeated rival SUNY Old Westbury to capture the 2019 Skyline Conference title. It is their first championship since 2014. A major reason for their success is their starting pitching led by senior Matthew Constantine. The West Babylon-grad leads the team in innings pitched (67.0), wins (7), saves (2) while compiling a sterling 2.28 ERA. Against Merchant Marine Academy–a game that Farmingdale eventually won in extra innings–Constantine went 8.1 innings and then came back on zero days rest and fired 1.1 innings in the championship game. If the Rams are able to advance to the Division-III College World Series, he will certainly be a big reason why. He spoke to me about a variety of topics and here...

Cam Alfano’s Suicide Squeeze Sends Farmingdale to Skyline Conference Finals

Ryan Mallon struck out six batters in 3.2 shutout innings to record the win and send the Rams to the finals. He is our @BsbLifestyle101 Player of the Game. pic.twitter.com/pqa9H5OPtH — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 6, 2019 “Ozzie Ball” is a phrase that was coined to reflect the style of play Farmingdale State Head Coach Keith Osik asks of his team. A major component of said style of play includes bunting and that was the difference in a winner’s bracket game that sent Farmingdale State to the Skyline Conference Championship game which will be played tomorrow. They outlasted No. 2 seed USMMA, 5-4, in a thrilling 12-inning game. Cam Alfano came up with the bases loaded and 1-out following an intentional walk of Tyler Schrimpf. Alfano made Merchant Marine Academy ...

What’s On Tap for This Week?

May is always chaos for Long Island baseball. With the combination of Division-III conference championships intersecting with Division-II postseason this week, which turns into Division-II Regionals intersecting with Division-I postseason and high school postseason next week which turns into the Long Island Championships for Class AA, A, B and C. Needless to say it’s a crazy time for us, but you have to love it. As opposed to the Power Rankings, we are going to do something different. That’s because this deep into the season, it’s pretty much clear how the teams stack up. Here’s what you can follow along with this week. *Note: The ECC playoff seeds will be set following today’s Queens @ LIU Post games. Monday: Queens @ LIU Post 3pm (ECC Regular Season Finale) ...

Farmingdale and USMMA Advance to Winner’s Bracket

Farmingdale, NY– It was a long day of baseball in day one of the Skyline Conference double-elimination tournament, but aside some rain delays and thick fog, there was no surprised. Here’s how it went down: Game 1: Alex Mesaros had the go-ahead hit in the fifth inning. Here he is speaking about the win pic.twitter.com/1PZk6ecroZ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 3, 2019 Christian Tessitore and Andrew Spinnenweber squared off in a battle of hard-throwing RHPs. Merchant Marines got off to a quick 1-0 start in the second inning when Kyle Cunningham broke on contact with the infield drawn in on a ground ball to shortstop off the bat of Matt Mundorf. It seemed aggressive, but his speed was the difference as he beat the throw home. They added another run in the second inning ...

Previewing the Skyline Conference Tournament

Today begins the three-day, double-elimination Skyline Conference tournament at Farmingdale State College. The event was held there last year, as well as 2016. Both years the Championship was captured by St. Joseph’s College, but with Wednesday’s 10-9 loss at Maritime, they will not have a chance to do so this season. The first game will be held at 1pm, between No. 3 Old Westbury and No. 2 USMMA. Following that will be No. 4 Maritime and No. 1 Farmingdale State. The losers of those games will play at 7pm tonight in an elimination game. The winners will advance to play at 10am on Saturday. Let’s look at the two match ups. No. 3 Old Westbury @ No. 2 USMMA These two teams met on Sunday, April 14 at Old Westbury, with the teams splitting the double header. USMMA took Game 1, ...
