Fall Ball Series 2024

Fall Ball Series Powered by Revolution Athletics: Hofstra University

In 2022, Hofstra experienced a magical run in the Conference Tournament to capture their first CAA Championship in the program’s 86-year history. It was a remarkable Cinderella story, as the Pride not only entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, but won all four games by one-run with 3 walk-offs. Additionally, they were in their first year under Head Coach Frank Catalanotto, and they were coming off a 17-win season. Since then, they have been unable to match that level of success in the ultra-competitive CAA. In 2023, the Pride missed the postseason but last season they qualified and won their first game against No. 3 Northeastern prior to losing their next two against No. 1 Charleston and No. 5 William & Mary. I spoke with Coach Catalanotto at last week’s Fall World Seri...

Fall Ball Series Powered by Revolution Athletics: Adelphi University

(This is the third stop of the Fall Ball Series. Special thanks to Revolution Athletics for sponsoring this year’s series. Make sure to check them out here!) For as long as I’ve been following college baseball on Long Island, Adelphi has always been known for their strong pitching. Last season, a number of injuries impacted their pitching staff leaving them shorthanded to navigate through the ultra-competitive NE-10 Conference. It was their offense that kept them afloat, as they averaged an impressive 6.06 runs per game but were outscored by 29 runs on the season. They finished with an overall record of 23-23 (15-12 NE-10), and losing their playoff game against No. 2 New Haven. Their incoming class of freshmen certainly takes the sting away. From my vantage point, it has the po...

Fall Ball Series Powered by Revolution Athletics: Molloy University

Molloy has firmly established themselves as one of the premier Division-II programs in the northeast. They are coming off an outstanding season in which they won a program-record 42 games, captured the ECC Championship and the NCAA East Regional prior to losing in the Super Regionals to nemesis Southern New Hampshire. It could not have been a more dominant run through the East Regional as the Lions nearly shut out their opponents in all three games: (W) 7-0 vs No. 7 New Haven (W) 5-0 vs No. 6 Goldey-Beacom (W) 3-1 vs No. 7 New Haven The Lions advanced to face their rival Southern New Hampshire in the Super Regionals with a trip to the Division-II World Series on the line. It did not go nearly as well, as the Lions lost by the scores of 9-8 and 12-10 to end their season. They led 6-0...

Fall Ball Series Powered by Revolution Athletics: Stony Brook

(Editor’s Note: This is the first part of a multi-part series in which we highlight some of the local college programs during their Fall Ball season. Special thanks to Revolution Athletics for sponsoring this year’s series. Make sure to check them out here. ) You couldn’t have had a better October day for baseball on Long Island. It seemed to appear as more of an August day than October 21 with the temperature hitting 80 degrees in Stony Brook. We were checking up on the Seawolves as they prepare for the 2025 season – which will be the 35th under Head Coach Matt Senk. They are coming off a 2024 season in which they finished with an overall record of 24-28 (12-15 in CAA play). It was their second season in the CAA conference after switching from the America East foll...
