It’s not often that the No. 1 seed has to face a seasoned and battle-tested No. 8 seed such as Franklin Pierce. The host Adelphi Panthers dropped the first round of the NCAA Division-II East Regional, 4-3, to the NE-10 Champions. In front of a packed house at William J. Bonomo Field the top-seeded Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the second inning on a two-run double by Jonel Ozuna to put the Ravens ahead 2-0. This came after a dominant first inning for Baram who blew 91 MPH fastballs past two of the first three batters in a 1-2-3 inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Lucas Terwilliger got the Panthers on the board with an RBI single to cut the deficit in half. The Panthers missed several run-scoring opportunities in this game, failing to capitalize on five Ravens’ errors. It was a m...
Well, this wasn’t supposed to happen. Hours after getting ranked as the No. 6 Division-II in the nation, Adelphi dropped their first round NE-10 conference tournament game, 9-6, against Southern Connecticut who entered the game with a record of 19-26. Additionally, Adelphi was hosting the tournament and is slated to host the NCAA East Regional next week. They sent Ed Baram (7-1, 0.58 ERA) to the mound but it was not his day. He allowed two HRs in the second inning. Mike DeMartino got it going with a two-run shot to right and Nolan Cloutier followed with one to left to make it 3-0. The game was far from over, though. The Panthers got on the board in the home half of the third on a bases loaded walk to Brandon Warick to score Mike Cattani. In the top of the fourth, Baram ran into troub...
Adelphi takes the season opener, 5-2, over St. Thomas Aquinas. Winning pitcher Ed Baram had 10 strikeouts over 5 IP pic.twitter.com/dodjbgdsH1 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) February 28, 2019 If Adelphi is to make it to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2011, they will have to win non-conference games against formidable opponents. They had to pass an early test against perennial powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas. The familiar foe proved to be no issue for the Panthers led by senior ace Ed Baram and a three-hit performance by senior 2B Brett Malm. Baram came out of the gate firing 90 MPH cheddar past the Spartans lineup, striking out the side in the first. He finished with 10 over 5 innings of 1-run ball. His offense supported him with two runs in the first inning, coming on a...

WALK OFF: Adelphi wins it in 10 by the score of 4-3 ! pic.twitter.com/jG0DJN5k80 Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 3, 2018 Thomas Colombo took note of the previous few batters and noticed how Derek Duffy, Franklin Pierce‘s pitcher, worked aggressively early in the count. “I noticed that he was attacking with first-pitch fastballs, so I was looking for that. I just wanted to pick up Brett,” said Colombo moments after lining a single in front of Brad Roberto, who made a strong throw to catcher Stephen Octave but Jonathan Iadevaia was called safe on a bang-bang play. The single, Colombo’s first of the season after starting the day off 0-for-4, delivered the Panthers to a 4-3 victory in an exciting game at William J. Bonomo Field. Starting pitcher Ed Bar...
This is the first episode of our weekly YouTube series titled Axcess Baseball Weekly. Our first guest is Adelphi University’s ace Ed Baram. He is one of the top pitcher’s in the region. He compiled an ERA of 2.70 ERA over 60.0 IP with a record of 4-4. With the graduation of Axcess Baseball Cy Young T.J. Santiago, he will be counted on to anchor what appear to be one of the top pitching staffs in the Northeast-10 conference. The pitching staff will count on other upperclassmen such as Daniel Taggart and Mike Demarest, but they have a strong crop of young flame throwers such as Nic Luc, Austin Cole, Josh Rovner, Max Steele, among others. He also spoke about their offense led by Steve Withers and Brett Malm. Each week we will be joined by a guest from the baseball comment.
Panthers counting on another year big from SS Brett Malm who batted .330 last season pic.twitter.com/WSKHTBCpFb Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) October 26, 2017 This afternoon was Adelphi’s scout day, and I was in attendance. Below are my observations and takeaways from the workout. Pitchers: First off, wow. I had no idea they had this amount of flame throwers. They will have to replace T.J. Santiago, but they appear to have more-than-capable arms in every class. The freshman class specifically is loaded with gunslingers. If they enter Opening Day with this slew of arms, it could be a long year for the NE-10. Ed Baram (junior) will be the ace of the rotation. He compiled 60.0 IP last season with a 2.70 ERA and 4-4 record. He is 6’3″ with a slender build. He ...
Long Island native Cody McPartland picked up right where he left off in 2016 with Dowling. The senior RHP came on in relief for Franklin Pierce in the fifth inning of a 3-1 game and fired four shutout innings with six strikeouts in the Ravens’ 7-3 victory over Adelphi. “Coming out of the ‘pen isn’t much different,” he said in regards to pitching in relief verse starting the game. “You still have to come in and throw strikes regardless of if you start the game, come in the fifth or close the game out, you still need the same outcome…outs!” The Ravens took advantage of some miscues by the Panthers’ defense early in the game. Panthers’ starter Ed Baram had really good stuff, but attempted to throw a runner out at third on a bunt and ...
