Team Francisco Select overcame an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the New York Longhorns by the score of 6-5 to capture the 12u American Columbus Day Tournament. In the top of the first inning, the Longhorns immediately got on the board with an RBI single by Connor Fierro which was misplayed in left field and allowed two runs to score. Two batters later, Vincent Vargas ripped a two-run single, which was misplayed in center and right away it was a 4-0 deficit. The NY Longhorns-Tassielli haven proven their mettle in the fall 2023 season as they have not only won their first two tournaments, but are now 14-0 to kick off the fall. First baseman Dominick Podmore was the first baserunner of the game and reached on a single and then proceeded to swipe second base. Center fielder Thomas Solnick would score Podmore on a double to open the scoring in favor of the Cyclones. The Phenom would tie the game in the second inning courtesy of center fielder Cooper Scheriff, who showcased some heads-up baserunning. The Bayside Yankees could not muster much in the opening frame. Right fielder Anthony Verde tallied their first hit with a two-out single, followed by a base-on-balls by first baseman Nick Grigonis, but they were unable to score. In the bottom half of the frame, Phenom got on the board first thanks to great base running by Dexter Muether who reached via a single, stole second, and then made it to home on a passed ball. After the first game of the double header where the Mayhem edged out a 7-6 ending the Storm’s rally in the final inning where they scored 4 and had the winning run-on base, the Storm continued where they left off in game 2. The Storm started the top of the first with a leadoff single and a stolen base giving Jack Foley an RBI chance. The Knights reached the championship with a 2-0 win against Phenom Baseball while the Yankees won in a back-and-forth affair versus Titans Baseball- Fergo, 9-7. The Yankees rolled the dice and saved their best pitcher for last as they fought through the semifinal and give hard thrower Anthony Arvelo the ball in the Championship. Aidan Carey began the game with a walk, a steal of second, and advanced home on an overthrow while stealing third. The Mustangs would send Renzo Ioannou out to the mound to get the game started. It started early for the Tigers after back-to-back singles led to a 1-0 lead for the Tigers.
