16U South Shore Elite Capture Brian Moore Memorial Tournament

On a stifling hot afternoon at Mitchel Field, Joe Morreale brought some heat of his own. The rising senior at Seaford HS was lights out–firing a four hit shutout with 10 punch outs to deliver the South Shore Elite to a championship title of the annual Brian Moore Memorial Tournament. Not only was he nearly unhittable but he was extremely economical in this game–never allowing a runner into scoring position. pic.twitter.com/LFoyKoVls4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 14, 2019 They got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Ryan Carroll which scored Kyle Schmitt. It was Carroll once again in the bottom of the third who ripped an RBI single to score Morreale to make it 2-0. That was all the offense he would need on this day, but he was not sa...

LI Sharks Capture 14U Brian Moore Memorial Tournament

By Ethan Marshall The Long Island Sharks overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat Long Island Baseball 5-3. Sharks catcher Drew McGowan went 2-3 at the plate, scoring the team’s first run and tying the game with a two-run double. Joe Condon threw five shutout innings of relief to earn the win, and drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI single. According to Condon, he felt like he had his best stuff on the mound in the game. “I felt like everything was working,” Condon said. “I was getting my curveball over, I was hitting spots and I was locked in today.” Sharks head coach Jim McGowan like the way his team rebounded after a slow start to the game. “Joe Condon came in and allowed us to stay in the game until the bats came around mid-game,” Coach McGowan said. “His performance was key.” Coach McGowan w...

10u Black Diamonds Shine in 17-0 Victory over Junior Ducks

by James Ryder The 10u Ticketbash Junior Ducks met up with the Long Island Black Diamonds Saturday morning at Pro Game Field in Deer Park. The game ended up being a one-sided affair, as the Black Diamonds dominated over the course of only three innings of play. The game was called just over an hour into the game due to mercy, and the Black Diamonds took victory over the Junior Ducks, 17-0. Nicola Cespe started the game on the mound for the Black Diamonds and had great success. He had five strikeouts and only gave up a single walk. Each batter in the Ticketbash order faced him once, with the exception being leadoff hitter Anthony Kotarski, who drew the lone walk. The only other batter to reach base for the Junior Ducks was Gino Milone, who was hit by a pitch. Both events occurred in the bot...

John McCabe Tosses CG Gem in Oil City Bandits’ 6-1 Win

When it comes to the dog days of summer it is a near certainty that the players will be sluggish to some degree. We saw that this afternoon on a brutally hot afternoon at Mitchel Field in which the 15U Oil City Bandits and Diamond Spikes combined to make seven errors and commit three balks. It was the Oil City Bandits who came out on top by the score of 6-1 behind an outstanding performance by John McCabe (Archobishop Molloy 2022), who was able to overcome sloppy infield play–including three errors in the sixth inning alone–to record the complete game victory with seven strikeouts. The Bandits got on the board early in the top of the first inning on an RBI single and added to that in the second inning with an RBI single by leadoff man Chris Luna to score Jeremy Feder. The score...

14U LI Sharks Score 3 unanswered Runs to Defeat LIB

by Alex Carmenaty The LI Sharks were down 1-0 early, but they knew it was not going to end like that. From the bottom of the 2nd on, they managed to score three unanswered runs to take the lead and eventually shutout the Robins from there. After TJ Harrington gave the Robbins a 1-0 lead in the top 2nd with and RBI single, it was Joey Derose getting an RBI Single of his own, tying things up at 1. Then two batters later it was Rich Stanya drawing an RBI walk, giving the Sharks the Go Ahead Run and the lead. From there, there would be a great showing of defensive baseball as both teams stranded runners on base, struck out a combined five times and a double play was turned by the Sharks, the old fashioned 6-4-3. But in the bottom 4th, Danny Tiedermann would lead off with a double and then Joe ...

13u Thunder beat Titans 7-3 in Brian Moore Memorial Tournament

by James Ryder On Monday night, the 2019 MLB Home Run Derby took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was mesmerized by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 91 home runs and ultimately exhilarated about Pete Alonso’s 23 home runs to take the Derby crown. On Friday night at Plainedge High School, there were no home runs, but a game between the 13u LI Thunder and the Titans produced nearly the same number of walks with LI Thunder edging out the LI Titans, 7-3. The many walks came thanks to great plate discipline from both teams. However, this does not mean either team went without a few hits and RBI. The Titans got the game started by scoring one run in the top of the first inning following a pair of singles. After the number 2 hitter Matt Cruz hit one to left...

Phenom Baseball Mounts Impressive Comeback in Brian Moore Memorial Tournament

On a cloudy Thursday evening at Mitchel Park Phenom Baseball came from behind to defeat the Kanata Cubs 6-5 on a walk-off single by Michael Kerrigan in a Brian Moore Memorial Tournament matchup.  The rain held up for three innings as Phenom Baseball battled the Kanata Cubs, but as the weather turned and the rain began to fall in the top of the fourth, the game took a turn as well. Through the first three innings, the Cubs jumped out to a 5-0 lead and it looked as if they may run away with the game. However, in the top of fourth Phenom Baseball kept the Cubs scoreless, something they couldn’t do in each previous inning. With one out in the inning. Dylan Merpaw was on second for the Cubs and Phenom Baseball’s relief pitcher, Dominic Santagata, struck out Erik Wilson for the second out. Then ...

A tightly-contested game in which the tying run is stranded in scoring position in the seventh inning. The LI Titans and Massapequa Cyclones faced off in the opening game of the fifth annual Brian Moore Memorial Tournament with the hometown Cyclones coming away victorious, 4-2, with the tying run scoring on second base in the top of the seventh. The Cyclones took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth on a solo shot by Anthony Femia. The r...

Long Island Thunder Capture 12U Stars & Stripes Tournament

by Chris Sacchi Walking into McClaren Stadium, the sight of this year’s Stars and Stripes tournament, the scene instantly brings back emotions of when baseball fans first fell in love with the game.  Young ball players aged 8-12 flocked the two fields in the complex, competing in tournaments with laughs, cheers, and smiles ways only they can.  The 12u championship between the Syosset Braves and the Long Island Thunder was no different, even with the title on the line. Parents on both sides were loud and added an intensity to the game, and the dugout chants were never stronger than normal.  “We’ve been one of the only town teams playing against club teams, but we’ve stayed focused, played good defense, and we’ve been hitting the ball, jumping on pitches to hit,” said the Syosset Braves mana...

Ozone Academy Defeats South Shore Chiefs

by James Ryder  The bats were clearly awake for Sunday mornings 9 AM game between 11u Ozone Academy and the South Shore Chiefs. Both teams combined for 19 runs on 19 hits. However, the defense for Ozone Academy still seemed to be half asleep for the first few innings. Despite this, the team kept up with South Shores early scoring and came back from down 7-1 to win 12-8in five innings. Ozone Academy got a 1-0 lead to start the game in the top of the first inning. Ethan Sorensen led off and hit a single to center field. Phil Albergo started his impressive day at the plate by bringing home Sorensen on an RBI infield single to shortstop. As mentioned, Ozone’s woes started on the other side of the ball from the get-go. South Shore quickly loaded the bases on a single from Christian George, a ...

LI Titans Noe Capture 10U Stars & Stripes Tournament

There are not many 10U teams that can compete with them, but the Farmingdale Greendogs are one of them. “We always play this Farmingdale team and we know they can really play,” said LI Titans Head Coach Kenny Noe. “We know they have about 3 or 4 pitchers that can really throw so for us it’s just about grinding out at bats, getting pitch counts up and going deep into counts and it showed. We got their pitcher up over 100 pitches in four innings–he went to 107 pitches and it was after throwing 75 on Thursday so it really showed,” he added. That pitcher was Chris Parisi, one of Farmingdale’s power arms but pitching on 2-days rest after throwing a complete game, he certainly battled to find his command. The Titans took advantage of this by drawing five...
