Head Coach Mike LoGerfo was proud of his team’s ability to expand outside of the strike zone. “The kids have definitely been controlling the zone–in Aaron Boone’s words,” said LoGerfo. “You can see we’re a pretty good team. The kids rally around each other. When Dylan DeBlasi came out early–he gave us two good innings–the teammates rall...
The Oil City Bandits used their power bats and four pitchers to hold off the East Coast Cannons, 6-1, in a Friday night showdown under the lights at Mitchel Field. They got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. After an error allowed their leadoff batter to reach, Ryan Piccola crushed a two-run inside-the-park HR to give the Bandits a 2-0 lead right off the bat. Dan Pignataro singed after him but was stranded at second to end the inning. They extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second on an RBI ground out by Gavin McMahon to score Pat Sullivan and an RBI infield single by Chris Marano. Their lead never really was threatened, but the Cannons did get runners on each inning. In the second inning, they even had second and third with nobody out, but a perfect throw home o...
by James Ryder Field 3 at Plainedge Park Sunday morning saw the 10u East Meadow Mustangs meet up with the Islip Owls. Their game lasted through the top of the fifth inning before the game was called due to time limit. The Mustangs were able to break open a 4-4 tie early in the game and slowly expanded their lead over the Owls. They went onto win 12-4. The Owls took their only lead of the game in the top of the first. Despite having their first two batters strike out, Islip went up 1-0 on a bullet off the bat of Frank Greco, which was lined into the left-center field gap resulting in an inside the park home run. In the bottom of the first, Islip’s starting pitcher struggled to throw strikes. Several wild pitches and a couple passed balls led to six walks and many stolen bases in the frame. ...

by Ethan Marshall The PYA Legends overcame a three-run deficit to defeat the Kings Park Knights, 11-6, in five innings at Plainedge Field. An eight-run third inning capped off the Legends’ comeback, with the dagger coming on a two-run triple by Andrew Blake. Throughout the frame, the Legends put together competitive at-bats, took advantage of the Knights’ mistakes and were aggressive on the bases. According to Legends head coach Tim Workman, the team feels they are never out of any game, including this one. “We’re never in a panic, we never sit back or worry because the team consistently battles back,” Coach Workman said. “It’s something that we’re known for and the kids are very comfortable battling from behind.” The Knights jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to RBI...

However, it was the Mustangs who got this high scoring outing started in the top of the first. After a leadoff single from Augustyn and back-to-back walks from Dominguez and Smith, Lanza brought them all home on an inside-the-park grand slam. This 4-0 lead was short lived though as LI...
After the deluge of rain on Labor Day, the 10U Championship game was postponed until Thursday. While some people were upset about having to leave the field and come back three days later, it wound up being the smart decision as the weather on Thursday was perfect for baseball. Syosset Braves were riding the euphoria of completing an epic comeback in the semifinal game and holding on to win, 10-9, on a play at the plate in extra innings. Momentum only carries as far as the starting pitchers, though, and on this day Batting 1.000 had the advantage with hard-throwing Derek Yormack. The big right-handed pitcher stated that he is eligible to play 11U and 10U and has been used to facing the older competition. With the exception of one mental error on the field, there was nary a challenge for him...

by Ethan Marshall The Farmingdale Greendogs were able to beat the Massapequa Cyclones, 5-2, thanks in large part to a three-run third inning and three scoreless innings of relief by Braden Cloghessy. He finished the game having only allowed one hit and walking two batters. He struck out four batters en route to the save. According to Greendogs Head Coach Jeff Tyler, Cloghessy has a bulldog mentality on the mound. “[Braden’s] worked hard all season long, puts the time in at home and at practice and he loves to compete,” Coach Tyler said. “He always steps up when the team needs him the most.” Cloghessy showed off his mental toughness almost immediately after entering the game. When an error, two stolen bases and a walk put runners on the corners and nobody out in the fourth inning, Cloghessy...

Coach Garcia on the victory pic.twitter.com/RuOtqhhuf2 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 31, 2019 It’s hard to come out in better fashion than the Bronx Warriors did on Saturday afternoon against the Massapequa Cyclones. The 11U squad did just about everything right in order to build an insurmountable first inning lead. They put up 10 runs, sending 14 batters to the plate against two pitchers. They got going right away as lead off batter Luis Hernandez drew a walk and scored when Nathaniel Bisceglie drove a double and an interference on the shortstop resulted in the first run coming across the board. They added their second and third runs on a ground ball to the third baseman off the bat of Chris Luna that result...
