Vinny Mascia, who is entering his third year as head coach of the Jets, led his very young team to a .500 season. “Last year we were a very average 11-11.” Mascia said. “We were very young, and we got knocked out in the first round against Plainview.” Being a young team, East Meadow was not a group that was made up of very many seniors, as only five of the Jets last season gradu...

East Meadow Prepared to Build off Final Four Appearance

by Andy Smith East Meadow is entering 2023 following a very strong 2022.  The Jets finished in second place in the AA2 with a league record of 13-4.  They went on to defeat Baldwin in the quarterfinals, but fell to the eventual LI Champion Massapequa in the semifinals.  Now entering his second season as the head coach, Vinny Mascia reflected on his debut season.  “I felt we had a good season last year. Any time you get to the Final Four is a positive season.” Mascia continued, “ Even though it was my first year as Head Coach it was not a new experience as I have been the Head Coach at EM Football for 20 years as well, so I had some experience in that area. I also was prepared for the job as I worked under two great Head Coaches in the legendary Ken Sicoli (501 Wins) and John Marciante. Bot...

East Meadow Enters Season With 1 Returning Player from 2019 Playoff Team

Quick trivia question: Who’s the last Nassau County Class AA team – not named Massapequa – to capture a title? That’s right, East Meadow Jets captured the 2016 Nassau County championship before losing to West Islip in Long Island Championship. Head coach John Marciante said they “emptied the tank against Massapequa. We basically had a five-man pitching staff, or maybe even four-and-a-half.” Marciante is East Meadow through-and-through. He captured a County Championship as a player in 1991. He has been on the coaching staff since 1998 and head coach since 2015. He immediately took the program to the height of success in his second season. Since then, they have been successful but unable to reach the mountain top. In 2019, they had a great season. They wen...

On the verge of getting swept, East Meadow sent Sean Kennedy to the mound in game three and he delivered. Kennedy finished the game going the distance, allowing two earned runs, seven hits and struck out three batters. “My stuff in the beginning was a little off, but I was able to battle through it. I trusted my defense and they made every play, we were able to have a couple big innings,” said Kennedy. Scoreless after the first two innings, it was East Meadow’...

East Meadow Looking to Regain 2016 Magic

It was less than three years ago that East Meadow rode the right arm of Joe Minucci and the power bat of Zach Fritz to the Nassau County Class AA title. Now entering 2019, fifth year Head Coach John Marciante is excited about their chances to compete for another title. Last year, they were defeated by Massapequa in the quarterfinals with a starting lineup that was composed of two sophomores, five juniors and two seniors. “We were young last year,” said Head Coach Marciante. “We are hoping the experience they gained helps them this year.” He went on to add that they will miss the presence of Patrick Hoffman, an All-County LHP/1B who is now at Molloy, as well as Billy McQuillan, who went 16-5 during his three-year career and is now at NYIT. The roster this year will l...
