The Storm Fades as Sharks Make Comeback Win, 6-4

by James Ryder The start of Saturday’s game between the South Shore Sharks and New York Storm at Cantiague Park featured cold temperatures and scattered winds. The weather wouldn’t end up being the only unpredictable event to take place however as the Sharks managed to make the late comeback in a 6-4 victory. Liam Collins pitched for the Sharks and in the top of the first got off to a rough start. The Storms’ Dylan Rhein worked a 3-2 count to get a lead-off walk followed by 3-2 single to shallow left from Maz Mieszeiski shortly after Rhein went to second base on a wild pitch. With Liam Daly up to the plate, Rhein stole third base but would be thrown out at home plate by third baseman Jimmy Manzella on a Daly fielder’s choice ground ball. With Dennis Kelly up to bat, Daly then stole s...

He went five innings, striking out 12 batters and allowing just two runs. “I felt comfortable on the mound,” said the 9-year-old. “I feel like defensively we played very well. I tried to stay calm on the mound, and tried to strike everyone out,” he added. He nearly did that, as he struck out two in the first, three in the second,...

However, the Indians wasted little t...

Segarra credits head coach Tommy Beirne for encouraging them to be aggressive on the basepaths. “Coach [Beirne] always tries to get us to be aggressive, and it always works out for us,” Segarra said. “The more risks we take, the better we do.” Head Coach Tommy Beirn...

The Islip Owls played excellent defense, received a complete game gem from Derek Rivera and, oh that’s right, they also put up 11 runs to capture the 12U championship of the East Coast Columbus Day Tournament. “It was a complete effort the entire weekend,” said their Head Coach. “They did the little things from taking extra bases, hitting behind runners, hitting sac flies, it was an all-around team effort,” he added. They wasted zero time getting on the board in the top of the first inning when Jimmy Reidy led off w...
