Team Steel wasted no time getting a lead, scoring four runs in the first. With one out, Brayden Alemaghides worked a walk and stole second. Alex Casey followed up with a double, giving Steel their first lead. Casey then advanced to third and then scored on a pair of passed balls. With two guys out, Nikolas Infante reached on an error. James Minutillo made the Owls pay, blasting a home run to left field, giving his team a four run cushion in the first. The Owls clawed away at the deficit that they faced, scoring a run of their own in t...
by James Ryder Forever 9 Field was the site of the first game of a Father’s Day double header at Norman J Levy Lakeside School. The 11u game featured the Batting 1.000 Seminoles and the Islip Owls. The Seminoles, behind Matty Tolipano’s bat and the arms of Braydon Seligman and Derek Yormack, dominated in a 6-0 victory. It didn’t take long for Batting 1.000 to gain the lead, as they scored half of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. Timmy Lynch led off with a walk and was pushed over to 2nd base on Seligman’s single to center field. Tolipano then brought them both home on his first hit of the game, a two run double to right field. He then scored his first run of the game when Ryan Yormack had his own RBI double to make it 3-0 Seminoles. They scored another ...
Here’s an interview with Alex Abi-Zeid, who hit the RBI groundout for the final run. Both teams kept it close throughout with each of their starting pitchers going deep into the game. In the end, it was the Black Diamonds pitching and offense that edged out the Hawks late in the game giving them the 6-5 win. Ryan Buckhardt took the mound for Plainview and went to work with his tricky change up. He struck out the first two batters and then, despite walking the third batter, forced a ground out to short...
By James Ryder It was a chilly night Thursday at Baseball Heaven. However, the bats were hot for both 11u teams playing on Field 5. It was an offensive clinic for most of the game that ended with Team Beast besting the Islip Owls, 9-8. The Beast opened the game by hitting back-to-back doubles, courtesy of Adrian Cruz and John Albert Franco respectively, that put them up 1-0. In the bottom of the first, the Owls started with three straight hits, including two doubles of their own. Gregory McSweeny’s leadoff double and Luis Poulos’ single led to Matt Waters’ 2 RBI double down the 1st base line for the lead. Dylan Broschart’s groundout to shortstop and James Terhune’s single to center field each scored one run each to go up 4-1. Once again, the lead wasn’t had for long. The Beast answered wit...
by James Ryder This one ends after 5 innings due to mercy rule. Final Score: Thunder 11, Hurricanes 2. Heres the Thunder coach on what it took to win big: pic.twitter.com/EaPjawIpm4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 8, 2019 The first game of a double header between the LI Hurricanes and the 11u Thunder was a blowout Saturday morning at Plainedge Park. The Thunder rattled off 7 runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-2 win. It started with a leadoff walk by Charlie Nella, who stole first base and then scored when Taylor Nitsch hit a ground ball to shortstop. Nitsch reached first safely when the first baseman dropped the ball allowing Nella to advance home. The next batter, Ben Cohen, almost recreated the scenario by hitting another grounder to SS. This time, however, it was ...
by James Ryder The 12u National East Championship game featured the Oil City Bandits and the South Shore Sharks on Sunday at Plainedge Park. The game was played well by both teams, but it was the Bandits who stayed true to their name by stealing the show, as well as 11 stolen bases, in a 12-7 victory. Clearly, the teams scored a lot of runs, but Oil City didn’t quite score the way you may think they did. Exactly half of their runs came off of two walks (each with bases loaded) and four pass balls. In addition to their aforementioned base stealing, the Bandits offense stayed consistent throughout the day and allowed them to never be down in the game past the first inning. Speaking of the first inning, the Sharks scored one run in the opening frame when Sawyer Shectman hit a single to right ...
Axcess player of the game Yorky Perez discusses his strong performance on the mound. He also reached base safely in all 4 plate appearances, batting 3-3 with 2 RBI’s. pic.twitter.com/bGkQxS1Ikw — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 2, 2019 Baseball has a pretty simple concept. You can’t lose if the opposition can’t get you out. That’s exactly what the South Shore Sharks did today in their 14U Spring Classic Championship against the Massapequa Cyclones. The Sharks achieved an extremely impressive feat in that every batter in their lineup reached base safely in the game. They tallied 14 hits leading them to 10 runs, and a dominant 10-4 victory. The team was led by Yorky Perez who reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances, going 3-3 with a double, 2 RBI’s and ...
Batting 1.000 receives their medals after a hard fought second game of the day. pic.twitter.com/7QRIL0yT7d — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2019 by James Ryder Field 2 at Plainedge Park was the stage for this years 12U championship game of the Memorial Day Clash. The result was the Farmingdale Greendogs defeating the Batting 1.000 Seminoles out of Freeport, 8-7. It was the second straight game of the day for Batting 1.000, but they came out looking fresh to start. Their offense scored a quick two runs in the top of the first starting with a walk from Danny Defonte, who also stole second and third base. Sammy Taubes hit a ground ball but reached first safely on a bad throw and advanced to second. This allowed Defonte to score the first run of the game. The next batter, Ben Kri...
Rays starting pitcher Michael Kondyra on his complete game performance: pic.twitter.com/eTphKPe45N — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 24, 2019 by Ethan Marshall The Levittown Rays, led by starting pitcher Michael Kondyra, defeated the Smithtown Bulls 6-4 at MacLaren Senior Field. Kondyra recorded just two strikeouts in the game and allowed two runs in the final inning before loading the bases, but stranded the tying run at second to finish the complete game. “I just threw strikes and my outfield and infield made good plays,” Kondyra said of his performance. He didn’t allow a walk until the second-to-last batter of the game. According to Kondyra, fatigue began setting in for him in the sixth inning. “My arm was hurting at the end, but I just did the best I could.” The Rays offense s...
Bandits starting pitcher Ivan Epps on his outing: pic.twitter.com/MUNY7z7s9e — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2019 by Ethan Marshall The Oil City Bandits scored three runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit and never looked back as they defeated the Islip Owls 4-2 in five innings. Bandits starting pitcher Ivan Epps allowed two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over 3.1 innings. His only blemish came in the second inning on a two-run double by Brandon Ruocco after back-to-back walks to open the frame. The other two hits he allowed both came on swinging bunts down the third base line that the hitters barely managed to beat out. According to Bandits head coach Tommy Beirne, Epps looked better as the game went along, but he had to be pulled onc...
