12U Mustangs Hang On For Win over Legends

by James Ryder The 12u East Meadow Mustangs faced the PYA Legends on Carpentier Field Saturday morning at the East Meadow Baseball Complex. The teams managed to exchange leads for most of the game. Several runs came on RBI’s and errors by both teams. In the end, East Meadow was able to hang onto the lead and win 7-6. The Mustangs’ first lead of the game came in the top of the first inning. Joe Augustin hit a lead off single and was brought home on Trevor Smith’s RBI double to the left field fence. In the bottom half, the Legends responded by taking their first lead. Eight-Run Third Helps PYA Beat Kings Park

by Ethan Marshall The PYA Legends overcame a three-run deficit to defeat the Kings Park Knights, 11-6, in five innings at Plainedge Field. An eight-run third inning capped off the Legends’ comeback, with the dagger coming on a two-run triple by Andrew Blake. Throughout the frame, the Legends put together competitive at-bats, took advantage of the Knights’ mistakes and were aggressive on the bases. According to Legends head coach Tim Workman, the team feels they are never out of any game, including this one. “We’re never in a panic, we never sit back or worry because the team consistently battles back,” Coach Workman said. “It’s something that we’re known for and the kids are very comfortable battling from behind.” The Knights jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to RBI...

Batting 1.000 Captures 10U East Coast Labor Day Tournament

After the deluge of rain on Labor Day, the 10U Championship game was postponed until Thursday. While some people were upset about having to leave the field and come back three days later, it wound up being the smart decision as the weather on Thursday was perfect for baseball. Syosset Braves were riding the euphoria of completing an epic comeback in the semifinal game and holding on to win, 10-9, on a play at the plate in extra innings. Momentum only carries as far as the starting pitchers, though, and on this day Batting 1.000 had the advantage with hard-throwing Derek Yormack. Farmingdale Greendogs Defeat Massapequa Cyclones 5-2 in 8U Matchup

by Ethan Marshall The Farmingdale Greendogs were able to beat the Massapequa Cyclones, 5-2, thanks in large part to a three-run third inning and three scoreless innings of relief by Braden Cloghessy. He finished the game having only allowed one hit and walking two batters. He struck out four batters en route to the save. According to Greendogs Head Coach Jeff Tyler, Cloghessy has a bulldog mentality on the mound. “[Braden’s] worked hard all season long, puts the time in at home and at practice and he loves to compete,” Coach Tyler said. “He always steps up when the team needs him the most.” Cloghessy showed off his mental toughness almost immediately after entering the game. LIB Bombers Walk-Off to Win 9u Championship

by James Ryder The 9u Championship was played Saturday afternoon at Plainedge Park. The teams that made it to the big stage were the LI Rebels and the Long Island Baseball Bombers. After six incredible innings from both teams, LIB was the last team standing. They won in walk-off fashion, 9-8. The Rebels were rolling right out of the gate, leading the entire game up until the final moments. Although they lost despite coming 1 out away from winning it all, they played inspired baseball for most of the contest, and deserved the lead they would build. 11u Thunder Defeat LIB in Playoffs

by James Ryder The 11u LI Thunder and Long Island Baseball faced off in a playoff matchup Friday night at Wantagh Field. After a back and forth affair, the Thunder took a two-run lead, which expanded to as many as five runs. LIB made a late push in the bottom of the sixth, but were eventually put away by the Thunder, who won 8-6. Both teams went scoreless in the first inning. The Thunder took the lead first in the top of the second. Aiden McCarthy and Luke Walsh hit back-toback singles to get on base.
