LI Junior Ducks Capture 17U Columbus Day Championship
This game couldn’t have gone much better for the Long Island Junior Ducks from start-to-finish. Led by Tom Caputo, the Ducks were firing on all cylinders in their 9-0 run-rule victory over the Commack South Diamonds. Starting pitcher John Rizzo was on his ‘A’ game, allowing just a first inning single in a one-hitter with seven strikeouts. The only other blemish was three hit batsmen but he never allowed the runners to get into scoring position. “Really just attacked the hitters with my fastball,” said Rizzo. “Pitching to my defense and letting them make plays,” he added. Junior Ducks Put On A Clinic in 15-3 Victory
The bats got going early and often for the 11U Junior Ducks this evening at Allen Park. In the top of the first they wasted no time putting up four runs. With one out, Stevie Gervasi and Chris Rizzo both singled and came around to score on Logan Urtnowski‘s two-run single. They added another run on an RBI double by Mike Tramaglini and Dom Olivo‘s run-scoring single opened up a 4-0 lead. They gave two of those back, though, in the bottom of the fist when five walks allowed Freedom Baseball to cut the lead in half. The RBIs went to Aiden Ging and Parker Elward. The two teams battled all game long on field A at Wantagh Park. Both squads had a couple of huge innings at the plate, but it was the Rebels who pulled out a narrow 12-11 victory in the top of the sixth inning. One of the biggest plays of the game came when the Bandits’ Pat Sullivan belted a go-ahead three-run triple to deep center field in the bottom of the second inning. According to Sullivan, he was just focused on getting the bat on the ball to drive in the runner from third, but got a pitch to drive. “I was just looking for a pitch to hit up in the zone and just hit my pitch,” Sullivan said. Massapequa Cyclones Shutout LI Pride, 9-0
by Andrew Giantasio The Massapequa Cyclones took on the LI Pride at Cantiague Park in the 12U division of the East Coast Columbus Day Tournament and they came away with a 9-0 shutout. The game had a different feel in the top of the first as the Pride loaded the bases with only one out, but starting pitcher Justin Graham would quickly settle in and would escape the inning unscathed. He wound up working three spotless innings. From there, the Cyclones would take over as they jumped ahead in the bottom half of the first with a six-spot. Evan Walters started the scoring with a two-run double, which was followed by Justin Graham hitting a two-run single to help himself. 14u Sharks Baseball Academy defeat Titans 7-3 on Strong Outing from Michael O’Grady

The Sharks gave up a few runs in the first but were able to limit the damage and rally back for 7 runs. The story for the Sharks ended up being their starting pitcher, Michael O’Grady. After giving up a few runs in the first it seemed that maybe it just didn’t happen to be his day on the mound. Junior Ducks Defeat East Coast Jays, 3-2, To Open Up Columbus Day Tournament
The Long Island Junior Ducks got out to an early 3-0 lead but wound up hanging on to win, 3-2, over the East Coast Jays to open up the 2019 Columbus Day Tournament. After both teams went scoreless through the first two innings, the Ducks broke through in the top half of the third in a big way. After a hit by pitch by John Rizzo, Billy McKinney walked to move the runner into scoring position. Nick Rizzo came through with a clutch RBI single to give the Ducks an early 1-0 lead. After a ground out, Paul Mata drove in a run with a single to center to make it 2-0. An RBI ground out off the bat of KJ Flores made it 3-0. The Oil City Bandits used their power bats and four pitchers to hold off the East Coast Cannons, 6-1, in a Friday night showdown under the lights at Mitchel Field. They got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. After an error allowed their leadoff batter to reach, Ryan Piccola crushed a two-run inside-the-park HR to give the Bandits a 2-0 lead right off the bat. 10u Mustangs Build on Early Lead to Win 12-4
by James Ryder Field 3 at Plainedge Park Sunday morning saw the 10u East Meadow Mustangs meet up with the Islip Owls. Their game lasted through the top of the fifth inning before the game was called due to time limit. The Mustangs were able to break open a 4-4 tie early in the game and slowly expanded their lead over the Owls. They went onto win 12-4. The Owls took their only lead of the game in the top of the first. Despite having their first two batters strike out, Islip went up 1-0 on a bullet off the bat of Frank Greco, which was lined into the left-center field gap resulting in an inside the park home run.
