Each game came down to the final turn at bat. The teams came in separated by just 1.5 games in the standings so it would have playoff ramifications regardless of the outcome. Here’s how it went down. Game 1 It was an outstanding pitcher’s duel between Matt Tomasello and Rocco Liguori. The teams traded zeros in the first inning but Oil City broke through in the home half of the second on an RBI ground out by Kellen Franquiz who scored Liguori – who singled and stole second to get into scoring position. LI Storm White Takes Down Diamond Spikes, 6-4

By Jared Valluzzi It was a wonderful summer night with a nice breeze at Wantagh Park for a 12U matchup between LI Storm White and Diamond Spikes. For these two teams, they both entered the contest winless on the year and were hungry to change that.  Coming into the game each team really struggled scoring runs as they combined for just three runs through the 6 combined games they played. On this day it was different, it was both of these offenses coming right out of the gate swinging.  After LI Storm White got an early double play to start the first inning, it was Diamond Spikes really getting the bats going. With a man on first and two away, Michael Murphy hit a big time triple to drive in Jordan Iglio to give the Spikes an early 1-0 lead. After a wild pitch, Murphy would also cross home p...

According to Hall, he felt very comfortable on the mound during the game. “I felt like I [pitched] better because I took my time and took a few deep breaths,” Hall said. He also credited the defense behind him for making his job easier throughout the afternoon. The Sharks defense made no errors. In fact, s...

The rising sophomore pitched a gem in the opening game of the sixth annual Brian Moore Memorial Tournament at Allen Park in Farmingdale. His South Shore Elite went up against the 495 Wolfpack with a 6:30 start time on a beautiful summer evening. Merone worked quickly, with the only jam really coming in the second inning when he allowed two walks and a single but escaped the jam with a strikeout and a flyout to left. He didn’t need much offense support but he got some in the bottom of the first when Brian Fader singled and advanced to second...

LI Elite Win Extra Inning Thriller to Capture 16U Columbus Day Tournament

The test of a good team is the ability to overcome adversity and not wave the white flag. LI Elite showed incredible resiliency today in a 7-4 extra inning win in the 16U Columbus Day Tournament Finals against a terrific Next Level Baseball team. “We said we’d get into a slug fest today and we go punched in the face and bounced back,” said Head Coach Appel. “We’ve been a bend-but-don’t break team but any time we play a big game we seem to show up. Today we were able to foul off curveballs and hunt fastballs,” he added. They faced a very good pitcher in JJ Gatti. The hard-throwing righty had great stuff but he ran into some trouble leaving the ball up in this game. LI Elite scored two runs in the top of the second on a sac fly by Ryan Desmond and an...
