Division Has Their Eyes Set Towards Another County Championship

In life there are three guarantees; death, taxes and Division contending every year. In Head Coach Tom Tuttle‘s 11 years at Division, they have six County Championship appearances, four County Championships, two Long Island Championships and three Diamond Award winners. The numbers speak for themselves. Somehow, the Blue Dragons have been constantly overlooked in recent years. Regardless of what their roster looks like at the beginning of the season, they always find a way to compete and usually come out on top. Last year, they finished the regular season at 15-3 and a conference title. Although they lost in the Class A County Championship to Wantagh, they certainly exceeded everyone else’s expectations. Speaking for themselves, they fell short of their ultimate goal, which is ...

Who Are The Top Remaining Uncommitted 2019s?

With the weather cooling down and football season in gear, I thought it would be a good time to take a look and see which of the top seniors remain unsigned. By no means is it too late, it used to be the norm for a player to wait until the fall of their season year to decide where they will attend college. Times have changed, though, and many of the elite players have announced their verbal commitments as soon as their freshman year. Below are the best remaining unsigned 2019 grads. Pitchers Cameron Mayer, RHP Syosset Matt DiGennaro, RHP Ward Melville Chris Palmer, RHP East Islip Ethan Farino, RHP Ward Melville Bryce Grathwohl, RHP Matituck Anthony Cinquemani, RHP West Islip Justin Harvey, RHP Smithtown East Catchers Matt Yip, Herricks Alec Maag, Center Moriches Kyle Jaspers, Cold Spring H...

Wantagh Puts Up Nine in the 7th, Captures Third Consecutive County Championship

THREEE PEEEAT!!! Wantagh has done it, they are the back-to-back-to-back Nassau County Class A Champions! FINAL: Wantagh 14 Division 3 pic.twitter.com/RaMeHbraeR — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 28, 2018 Stop me if you’ve heard this before; the Wantagh Warriors are Nassau County Class A Champs. On Memorial Day afternoon, Wantagh proved they were worthy of completing the three-peat as they defeated the Division Blue Dragons by a score of 14-3, highlighted by a nine-run 7th inning. Although the Warriors won their third consecutive championship, this year was much different than the last two. In many ways, this game was over before it started. In 2016 and 2017, Wantagh needed three games to be crowned county champions. This year, they posted a clean sweep over Division, proving...

Wantagh Continues to Roll; On Verge of Claiming Third Straight County Title

Our @DigmiNation Player of the Game is Anthony Fontana who fired a complete game allowing two runs and working out of a couple jams in Wantagh’s 5-2 victory over Division in Game 1 of the Nassau Class A Finals pic.twitter.com/HT0UZH7lsc — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 26, 2018 It starts with pitching and defense and for the past 12 games, that has been the recipe for the Wantagh Warriors (22-2). They have not lost since April 26 and remarkably haven’t yielded more than three runs during that period. Their ace, Anthony Fontana, fired another CG in the Warriors’ 5-2 victory over Division (20-5). He is now 9-1 o the season and 22-1 in his varsity career. He was backed by an offense that scored four runs in the first inning of Post-commit Nick Fressle; although it ...

Division Wins Thriller In the Battle of Levittown to Advance to Class A Finals

Diez fans Buchan to end it ! Division wins 6-4 and will face Wantagh for the Nassau Class A championship on Saturday ! pic.twitter.com/pHKo9zWlFj — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 24, 2018 Colin Diez came on in relief during the fourth inning, wound up pitching the final 3.2 innings including a strikeout to end the ballgame in a 6-4 victory over rival MacArthur and send Division into the Nassau County Class A finals against Wantagh; a rematch of 2010. “We want revenge–we want it,” Diez said moments after he fanned Brandon Buchan to record the final out. It was Buchan who was lights-out in Monday’s 9-0 victory for MacArthur that put Division on the brink of elimination but they bounced back with consecutive victories with their backs firmly against the wall ...

MacArthur Dominates Game One Thanks to Dominant Buchan

Brandon Buchan threw 6.1 scoreless en route to a dominating game 1 win. Game 2 tomorrow at MacArthur. pic.twitter.com/geZGzk6jbw — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2018 The MacArthur Generals made the short trip across Levittown and destroyed their crosstown rivals Division, 9-0, in game one of a best-of-three Nassau Conference A semi-final.  Both starting pitchers, Nick Fressle for the Blue Dragons and Brandon Buchan for MacArthur both shut down the opposition in the first three innings.  Division threatened in the bottom of the second, but a failed suicide squeeze got Buchan out of it after the Blue Dragons got a runner in scoring position with nobody out.  After a RBI single from Joe Ricciardi to open the scoring, Ryan Wall drove in two to give the Generals a 3-0 lead.  MacA...

Nassau County Class A Power Rankings (7th Edition)

On Long Island, there aren’t many things that are more exciting than varsity baseball playoffs. With just one more week of play before the highly anticipated playoffs, not much is set in stone. With every conference up for grabs, it’s hard to see who’s the favorites to emerge as the top dogs right now. As seen in previous years, anything’s possible come May. Heading into the final week of play in the regular season, let’s take a look at the teams that are streaking in class A, followed by the top ten teams. TRENDING UP: Clarke (10-5) After starting off 2-4, there was no telling to how this Clarke team may pan out. Fast forward a month, and now Clarke has a slim chance of winning their conference championship. If they can sweep Mineola (13-2) behind the arms of...

Nassau County Class A Power Rankings (6th Edition)

As usual, Class A is a power struggle at the top. Despite the two-time reigning champ Wantagh Warriors playing well, they will have plenty of competition from the other powerhouses as well as some upstart teams.  Time will only tell as we head down the stretch of the final two weeks of the season. Last week featured Wantagh beating Plainedge two games out of three to take the conference lead, along with Division beating Valley Stream North to take capture first place as well. The last two weeks of the regular season will feature nothing but competitive baseball, so expect to see some upsets as the regular season winds down. With that being said, here are the teams that stood out this past week in class A, followed by the top ten teams in the county. TRENDING UP: North Shore (9-3) After win...

Nassau County Class A Power Rankings (5th Edition)

A common theme this year in Class A has been upsets. However, last week the top teams prevailed as they established themselves as legitimate contenders. The race for first place in virtually every conference besides conference A4 is heating up, as Plainedge, Wantagh, Division and Valley Stream North will all be battling for the top spot in their respective conferences. Heading into perhaps the most exciting week of the year, let’s look at the teams that stood out this past week. TRENDING UP: Valley Stream North (8-1) Heading into the year, the Spartans virtually went unnoticed in conference A3 as a legitimate threat. Standing at week five in the season, Valley Stream North will have the opportunity of taking first place in the conference. Their lineup consisting of Joe Gisonda, Sean ...

Nassau Class A Power Rankings (3rd Edition)

Almost at the midway point in the season, it seems as if nobody is as dominant this year in Class A. Last week featured a ton of upsets, including a series win for Bellmore JFK over Plainedge and Division over North Shore. Those were just two of many surprises. This week in Class A, we’ll take a look at teams that are trending upwards, and teams that are trending downwards. In perhaps the most exciting week of regular season baseball in recent history, let’s take a look at the teams that stood out this week, followed by the top ten teams in the county. TRENDING UP: Division (2-1) In every sport, there’s always specific organizations that always find a way to succeed no matter how talented their team is. After losing key players such as Brandon O’Brien and Sean Papro...

Division Powers Past North Shore, 13-2

Final: Division 13, North Shore 2 (5 innings) WP: Robert Bradley pic.twitter.com/J5wRdeZVVP — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 6, 2018 With one swing of the bat by James Horodecki, Division made a huge statement. In what promised to be a tightly-contested rubber match between two of the top teams in Nassau County Class A, it was the Blue Dragons of Division HS who came out swinging early-and-often against a strong North Shore team that opened up its season with a three-game sweep outscoring Floral Park 33-2. Anthony Papa Transfers to St. Joseph’s

(Photo Credit: James Escher) When St. Joseph’s graduated two All-Long Island pitchers, Brandon Lubrano and Josh Outsen, following the 2017 season, it was a major question mark as to how they would replace two rock-solid veterans anchoring the rotation. It took almost until the New Year, but they seem to have answered that question with the addition of two-time All-State pitcher Anthony Papa, who transferred from Coastal Carolina (originally attended LIU Post in fall 2015). Papa was regarded as one of the best pitchers on Long Island during his stellar career at Division HS that culminated in firing a six-hit shutout against Bayport-Blue Point in the 2015 Class A Long Island Championship at NYIT. Papa will join forces with Joseph Murphy, a transfer from Suffolk CC (Sachem East 2015) i...
