NYIT Salvages Series Finale at Northeastern

  Photo Credit: NYIT Athletics The Bears of NYIT won a swift two hour 14 minute game against Northeastern 2-0 to avoid the three-game sweep.They scored both of their runs in the top of the sixth. The first run came on an RBI double to right center field by Joe Sebastian (2-for-4, one R, one RBI). That was followed by a double by Gerson Sotolongo. That was all that was needed by starter David Plotkin, who went the distance, allowing four hits, four walks while striking out seven batters.The Bears compiled only four hits in the game and struck out 18 times at the plate but managed to scrape across the necessary runs to win.The victory is the ninth of the season for NYIT–they will travel to Manhattan on Tuesday to take on the Jaspers at 3:30 pm.

NYIT Matches Last Season’s Win Total

This season, they have already matched that total in their 12th contest.They defeated Fairfield with an easy 7-2 victory. The Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the first innings, thanks to two HRs–Josh Canabal‘s two-run shot to center and Louis Mele‘s solo bomb.That was all the offense that David Plotkin needed. He threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, four strikeouts while striking out four. Nicholas Smith and Michael Auriemmo combined for four shutout innings of relief to seal the victory.The Bears knocked 11 hits–Mele had three while Matt DiBlase and Canabal each had two. NYIT might not be having a ticker-tape parade anytime ...
