Massapequa and Garden City Both Force Game 3’s

The Massapequa Chiefs and Garden City Trojans both faced elimination this afternoon–both won in blowout fashion to force a winner-take-all Game 3 on Tuesday. The Chiefs defeated the Plainview Hawks in game one of the double header at SUNY Old Westbury by a score of 10-1. For the second consecutive year, Massapequa is headed to game 3 of the county championship. Last year, the Chiefs fell to the East Meadow Jets in the do-or-die game 3. This year they’re hoping to be on the other end of the spectrum. “Last year was very upsetting, we thought we should’ve won the county championship but we ended up losing to a very good East Meadow team, but this year we’re even more determined. After the win we’re in the same spot as last year but now we’re very con...

Previewing the Nassau Class AA Semifinals

The top four seeds have advanced onto the semi finals, something anybody could’ve predicted. Although there were a couple scares within teams seeded 2-4 having to play a game 3 last week, they won when it really mattered and earned a spot in the semifinals. Both series will feature heated conference rivalry match ups, which means we will be in for an exciting week of baseball to say the least. Massapequa vs. Oceanside These playoffs continue to spoil the fans of rivalry match ups, and this takes the cake for biggest series of the year in Class AA. The rematch of Massapequa vs. Oceanside is back in the postseason. Both sides will have their own shot at revenge come this week. Last year, Massapequa knocked Oceanside out of the playoffs and this year Oceanside swept them in three games ...

Matt Carey’s RBI Hit, Strong Pitching Leads Oceanside to 6-4 Victory Over Massapequa

In an emotionally-charged rivalry like Massapequa-Oceanside, it pays to keep things simple. That’s what Oceanside’s junior RHP Matt Carey did that today in a crucial victory against a conference rival. “I just try to block everyone out, pitch the ball and strike everyone out,” said the NYIT-commit. Not only did he pitch very well–recording the win with six solid innings of work and 10 strikeouts, allowing three runs–he also smacked the go-ahead hit in the top of the seventh innings to propel Oceanside to the 6-4 victory. He came out of the gate guns blazing with eight strikeouts through the first four innings, using a high-octane fastball and a quality curveball to keep the Chief hitters guessing. Their offense got going against Dan Gdanski (Cortland-com...

Nassau Class AA Power Rankings (2nd Edition)

With a week of not many surprises in Class AA, let’s take a look at the top 5 teams. 5. Farmingdale (7-2) (Last Week: Unranked) Although the Dalers have had several nail biters thus far, at the end of the day, they’re 7-2. Pitching has helped Farmingdale get to where they are right now, specifically Adelphi-commit Nic Luc and freshman Justin Rosner. Farmingdale will match up against Oceanside in a highly-anticipated series. 4. Calhoun (6-3) (Last Week: 4) After sweeping Herricks in convincing fashion, Calhoun has solidified their spot in the top 5. Led by Jack Pugliano offensively, the Colts always seem to string together hits at the right time and work themselves into great hitters counts. For that reason alone they are a team to be on the lookout for. Calhoun will face the de...

Business as Usual For Massapequa

It takes a very strong-willed team to knock Massapequa out of the playoffs. Even after allowing five runs in the first inning against East Meadow in Nassau County Class AA finals, they fought back and got the tying runs on base in the last inning but was unable to get the clutch hit to tie it up. No. 3 seed East Meadow was crowned Class AA champions before losing to West Islip in the Long Island Championship. Massapequa Head Coach Tom Sheedy, now in his 14th year, will be going to battle in 2017 with another strong team–albeit without a couple of the key cogs from last year’s 19-win team. The big losses are two pitchers, Chris Keenan and Patrick Clyne. “Pat really developed into a super pitcher,” said Sheedy. “He came up as a sophomore and was All-State for us...
