The 2017 Suffolk CC team had a number of standout players; Joseph Mattero, Shawn Blasberg and Joseph Murphy will all be receiving All-Long Island Awards for their outstanding achievements on the field. The previous year, Kris Killackey was named our 2016 Cy Young Award winner for his undefeated season for Coach Brown as they marched through Region XV and into the World Series. Jared & Derek Yalon Commit to Stony Brook

It is rare that a set of twins would both be as athletic and talented as the Yalon twins. What’s even more rare is that they both would be interested in playing college ball at the same school and the interest would be reciprocated by the school. Jared & Derek Yalon, both Connetquot 2019, announced yesterday that they verbally committed to Stony Brook University. Jared, a lefty that plays first base, was named All-County as a sophomore. Derek plays left field and bats righty. They both stated that they originally became interested in attending Stony Brook in 2012 when the Sea Wolves made an appearance on ESPN playing LSU in the Super Regionals. If there was any question how important qualifying for the College World Series is for a program, look no further than that statement as ...

Jake Pierre walks it off with his fifth hit of the game ! Final: Titans 4, CT Bombers 3 pic.twitter.com/QmwZvDPBKR — Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) September 18, 2017 Jake Pierre stepped up with the bases loaded, having already compiled four hits on the evening; but he was not content. “I just wanted to win the game for my teammates, trying to go 5-for-5 and do something special for once.” The Sachem North junior certainly did that, as he blooped a single over the third baseman’s head to send the winning run home and propel the LI Titans to a 4-3 win over the Connecticut Bombers to take first place in the 18U Northeast Elite tournament at Baseball Heaven. The sweet-swinging lefty had put the Titans up 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI double to score Phil K...

Michael Rizzitello on His First Year in Pro Ball

(Editor’s Note: Michael Rizzitello is a 2012 graduate of Connetquot HS and 2016 graduate of Dowling College. He was named to our All-Long Island team last year and he participated in our Battle of the Border. He is currently playing professional ball in the Pacific Association. The following words are his own.) The hardest part about playing the game of baseball is knowing when to hang it up–something that I thought I would have to do at the end of my senior season of college baseball. It was January of 2017 when I was trying to figure out where I would shift my attention to, now that baseball didn’t consume my life. Let me tell you something, I have never been so miserable. I knew that I couldn’t play forever, but I didn’t think it would end so soon. One night, after a long da...

Brian Morrisey Fires Two-Hitter With 14 Ks Against Connetquot

One of the signs of a great pitcher is dominating the top competition. Brian Morrisey certainly did that today in Commack’s 7-0 shutout over League 2 rival Connequot. The Stony Brook-commit struck out 14 batters, allowing only two hits, walking two and hitting one batter as the Cougars improved to 4-0 on the season after last week’s sweep of Central Islip. He was fired up, displaying tons of raw emotion after his clutch strikeouts. “I just wanted the team to be pumped as much as I was,” said the aXcess pre-season top 30 player. “First series was more of an easy sweep, we had some fun but this series we wanted to come back out really good,” he added. He impressed the bevy of MLB scouts that were in attendance with advanced feel for three pitches and ...
