GAME RECAP: Dom Carbone Carries No-Hitter Into 6th Inning, Rocky Point Wins 5-1

Dom Carbone struck out 10 and allowed just 2 hits and an unearned run in Rocky Point’s 5-1 win over Comsewogue. He was the Axcess Preseason Player of the Year and today’s Player of the Game Powered by @GCsports pic.twitter.com/38gtY96o3a — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 10, 2023 Last year, Dom Carbone was one of the several high-end Division-I players on Rocky Point’s Suffolk County Championship winning team. But as the calendar turned to 2023 and four of those players graduated, he is now the leader of the team. The Eagles might be a little younger, but they are just as hungry and fundamentally sound as they ever were under coach Anthony Anzalone who has them believing in themselves. Dom Carbone, who we named the Axcess Preseason Player of the Year, and is among the top ...

Head Coach Joe Caltagirone reflected on the difficulties his team faced, and how his team responded and grew.  “Last season we were a very young but a very competitive team. The players grew as the season went on and we won our last series, taking 2 out of 3 from Hills West, knocking them out of the playoffs.” Caltagirone, who played college baseball for St. Joseph University LI was a varsity assistant and middle school coach before being named head coach of the Wa...

Q & A With Carson McCaffrey

Three starts, three complete games and only four hits allowed. Not a bad start to a varsity career for anyone – especially a sophomore. That’s how Comsewogue sophomore Carson McCaffrey began his career. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Who are your favorite players in Major League Baseball and why? My favorite player in Major League Baseball right now is Shohei Ohtani. He is a force to reckon with on both sides of the ball, being a strong, powerful and consistent hitter and an amazing pitcher with velocity along with nasty off speed pitches. Who are some people that have had a positive impact on your career? I have had many people help me throughout my baseball career on both sides of the ball and every single one has helped me become ...

Comsewogue Ready To Go To Battle With Strong Pitching Rotation

In the middle of the decade, Comsewogue was led by a terrific pitching staff that led them to back-to-back League Titles in 2015 & ’16. Since that time, they have been looking to regain the right mix. Heading into 2021, they appear to have one of the top pitching staffs in the league, which should allow Joe Caltigerone’s squad to be in every game. He is a fourth-year varsity player, having started twice as a freshman. As a sophomore, coach noted if the team scored some more runs for him, he likely would’ve been All-League. That has been their missing ingredient in recent years as they t...

Defense is critical behind the plate. Just about every winning team has a strong defensive catcher that can lead his pitching staff. And if they can get some offensive production from that player, then it’s a bonus. Comsewogue freshman catcher Kevin Schnupp Jr. is one of those two-way catchers. He has been lauded for his defensive abilities, his leadership of the pitching staff but he also handled the bat extremely well in 2020. Here was his stats. AVG: .413 2B: 19 3B: 3 BBs: 17 Rs: 34 OBP: .540 His father, Kevin Schnupp Sr, is the longtime head coach of Sachem East, where he helped lead the Arrows to the Suffolk County title in 2005. He has been pleased with the progress of his son: “Kevin has really progressed so much over the past year,” he said. He has grown up on the...
