Commack is in the midst of a pretty good run. After winning their first Suffolk County AA title in 2017 since 1997, they followed that up with another League II title and an appearance in the final four. Success tends to lead to more success, especially when the middle schoolers are exposed to a winning program and strive to be part of the next championship. Scouts will spend lots of time there this season with the presence of reigning Silver Slugger winner and TCU-commit Tim McHugh who is among the top hitters in the region. Once he graduates in June, who’s the next player that could potentially garner some headlines? Eighth grader Connor Schramm is making a case already to be that guy. Coming off a 2018 season in which he put up video game numbers, he is a tough one to ignore. Acco...
CORAM, NY–Today was the first day of the Elite College Recruiting Showcase (ECR) at Diamond in the Pines. The weather forced the afternoon to come to an early end, but there was three hours worth of action which included players running the 60, taking BP, infield/outfield and a showcase-style game. Schools in attendance included St. John’s, Fordham, Stony Brook, Hofstra, Sacred Heart, George Washington, Penn State, Florida International, Kansas State, Boston College, among several others. Below are some of my observations… Dillon Ristano (Hewlett 2019) He was very impressive behind the plate, with a pop time ranging between 1.95 and 2.02. Very quick, accurate throws. Also made solid contact with a single through the middle. Sean Coveny (Commack 2019) He came out of nowher...

He spoke with Justin Paura following the game pic.twitter.com/fCdWA8uJTy — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 10, 2018 The atmosphere at the 2018 HCBL All-Star Game could be summed up with just one word: fun. “Everybody is doing really well out here and we’re having a lot of fun playing together,” Tyler Becker of the Westhampton Aviators said before the first pitch. “It’s been really great so far.” “It’s awesome receiving this honor and getting to play with some great players,” Long Island’s Marcos Perivolaris said. “We’re going to have fun and play the game it’s meant to be played.” “It’s really fun playing ball with guys from all over the country,” Perivolaris’ Road Warriors teammate Ben McNeill said. “I’m just looking forward t...
Matt Hogan on winning the coveted Carl Yastrzemski Award given to Suffolk County’s Top Player pic.twitter.com/CqVxgEmklI — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 14, 2018 The annual Suffolk County All-Star Banquet at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook is a bittersweet moment that celebrates the best that Suffolk County baseball has to offer but also represents the official conclusion of the spring baseball season. Tonight’s gathering brought together over 800 guests from the baseball community, honoring several awards from All-League to All-County, League MVPs, three Courage Awards, two Umpires of the Year and the “Big 3” of Silver Slugger, Paul Gibson Award (top pitcher) and Carl Yastrzemski Award (top hitter). Our @DigmiNation Players of the Game are Jake Krzemienski and James Cardinale following Commack’s 4-1 victory. They will look to end West Islip’s 17-game win streak tomorrow pic.twitter.com/UrN4lABQU5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 23, 2018 No. 3 Commack put up four runs in the first inning against Southern New Hampshire-commit Danny Owens and received a lights-out performance from LHP Jake Krzemienski, to defeat No. 6 Longwood, 4-1, to advance to the semifinals of Suffolk AA playoffs tomorrow against No. 2 West Islip. It was one of those days that when an opposing team had one opportunity to capitalize when a dominant pitcher was in a jam. That occurred in the top of the fourth with Longwood threatening against Commack ace Krzemienski. The red-hot Kyle Rausch smac...
What a chaotic week. What started off as a beautiful Monday with every game being played in 70 degree weather quickly turned into a slog that featured suspended games due to the weather on Tuesday, only one game being played on Wednesday, a productive Thursday, a cold/windy day on Friday and a complete washout today. Plenty of action occurred when the games were actually able to be played and here’s my biggest takeaways so far: The biggest surprise so far has been No. 17 Bay Shore coming out of nowhere to shock both No. 1 Smithtown East and No. 9 Connetquot. Both of these teams feature a myriad of Division-I and II players that have excelled against elite competition for years. Smithtown East threw their Hofstra-commit at them and the Marauders came away with a 7-4 victory on Monday....
Winning pitcher Ryan Steffens is our @DigmiNation Player of the Game. He fired 7 strong innings to bring Suffolk CC the Region XV championship pic.twitter.com/7OjUhseJRf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 12, 2018 The Suffolk vs. Nassau rivalry was alive and well this weekend at PAL Stadium. Despite the fact that the tournament took place in Suffolk County, Nassau was the higher seeded team after winning the regular season title after beating Suffolk three times in their four games. After yesterday’s 14-6 loss, Nassau had a quick turnaround and played Bronx CC later in the afternoon. The Lions dominated Bronx 14-1 and advanced to play Suffolk, needing to beat them twice in one day to win the tournament. The two teams went on to play each other 18 innings and roughly six hours after...
Our @DigmiNation Player of the Game is Sean Coveny of Commack. He smacked a game-tying 2-R shot to right field in Commack’s 4-3 victory over Connetquot pic.twitter.com/kpMCfkF6Vn Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 27, 2018
McHugh on his heroics and the big victory for Commack pic.twitter.com/iPsFTVnEsG Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 9, 2018 If there was one person to avoid seeing with the bases loaded, two-outs protecting a one-run lead it’s TCU-commit, Tim McHugh, who happens to have the best raw power of any player on Long Island. The 6’4″ slugger took the first pitch for a ball before connecting and launching a go-ahead grand slam over the center field wall to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 6-3 lead for the Commack Cougars, who entered the inning trailing 3-1 with only two hits in the game. Reliever Drew Vincent came on to protect the lead and record the victory with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. The game started out with both pitchers dominating. Jake Krzemienski started for the...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzgwiNN5tq8&t=72s We’ve given you the top players, now it’s time for the top teams. Last season, Commack broke a 20-year drought and captured the Suffolk County Class AA county championship.Considering their litany of arms, it was no surprise and I was correct in my preseason prediction of that. They graduated their top three starting pitchers, but they still are loaded. They will have plenty of competition this year as teams will be coming for their crown. Below is the top five Class AA teams in Suffolk County based on my opinions and observations. I look forward to your criticism and tweets. Enjoy– Ward Melville (2017 Record: 20-5) League I is going to be extremely competitive yet again this year. With the emergence of Sachem East and...
Taking over for a legendary Head Coach such as Eric Brown is always a challenge but Brian Klammer is ready for the task. “I’m excited to be taking over here at Suffolk and I hope to be able to keep the tradition of preparing our players for four-year institutions. I’m excited about our incoming class of freshmen and transfers,” he said. Klammer is a graduate of Dowling College where he played ball before coaching as an assistant at Suffolk from 2002-’06. Last year’s team was loaded with talent, with three of their players (Shawn Blasberg, Joseph Murphy and Joseph Mattero) being named to our 2017 All-Long Island team. Murphy was ranked fifth in the nation in AVG at .486 and also led the nation in ERA at 1.21. All three have moved on to other programs but ...
